I have, like many recipients of physiotherapy, returned for help (as painful symptoms dictated). Rather than seeking pain management, I returned to Seth Greiner’s PT practice in Speonk, Long Island. This is the place where I learn meaningful ways to become an active participant in my recovery. After a thorough assessment, you will be expected to do guided exercises in the gym and at home between visits. Everyone has heard of the mind-body continuum, but when I am here twice weekly, I must attend to Peter (and formerly Anna’s) assistance in continuously gauging what the therapist’s intervention is doing. This readies one to move away from fixed ideas about pain itself, almost as if we permit mitigation by paying inordinate attention to the pain, in my case, itself. When I was Greiner's former patient, (see original post) my area of focus resulted in complete pain abatement over a considerably short stint. I was impressed that they weren’t interested in prolonging my stay, instead I was offered useful non-therapy tools. In sum, by strengthening underused muscles, the overworked ones do less, and healing can occur. My balance is lousy, and this is a major component in the re-training that goes on. A lot of pathology is housed in imbalance!During treatment, you are given procedural cues for self-observation. When asked to understand yourself in every stage of activity, you stop being a passive agent. I would never entertain a holistic assessment of my walking, standing, lifting,
