What We Do Wednesday: Supporting Our Veterans
Former Chair Bruce Campbell describes it best:
The Veterans Task Force's mission is to partner with local organizations and individuals to help prevent su***de among military service members, veterans, and their families.
Our journey began with the initiative of Jennifer Kelley, the Community Engagement and Partnership Coordinator at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, who reached out to veterans and health services organizations in this area to initiate the development of Veteran Su***de Prevention coalitions in the community.
This led to our first meeting at the PATH Resource Center, in January 2023, where representatives from various local organizations came together to address the alarming trends in veteran su***de.
We have committed to meeting monthly and working to build a strong coalition. Our efforts are guided by the key tenets that su***de is preventable, requiring community-based strategies, and understanding that everyone has a role to play in su***de prevention.
Now led by Jay Pinsky, the task force is actively planning events and programs to help veterans in our community.
