Jaw pain isn’t always just a jaw issue 🌿

TMJ tension can quietly affect so much more than we realize.

Headaches.
Neck and shoulder tightness.
Ear pain or pressure.
Clicking or popping.
Even disrupted sleep and chronic stress.

Because the jaw is deeply connected to the entire body — especially the nervous system.

When we’re stressed or overwhelmed, we clench. We grind. We hold tension without even noticing. Over time, that constant guarding creates inflammation, muscle tightness, and pain patterns that ripple far beyond the jaw itself.

This is why simply treating the surface symptom often isn’t enough.

Acupuncture takes a different approach.

By relaxing tight muscles, improving circulation, and calming the nervous system, acupuncture helps the body release stored tension and reset. Instead of forcing the jaw to behave, we help your whole system feel safe enough to soften.

Less clenching.
Better sleep.
Fewer headaches.
More ease.

Because when the body relaxes, healing happens naturally.

If you’ve been living with jaw pain or TMJ symptoms, you don’t have to just “deal with it.”

There’s a gentle, whole-body way to feel better 💛

TMJ disorder affects more than the jaw. Learn how acupuncture helps relieve jaw pain, headaches, and tension by calming the nervous system and treating the whole body.

Your thoughts don’t live only in your mind — they live in your body too 🌿

Stress isn’t just “mental.” It can show up as tight shoulders, poor digestion, headaches, shallow breathing, high blood pressure, restless sleep, or that constant feeling of being on edge.

When the mind feels overwhelmed, the body feels it right along with it.

But here’s the beautiful part… the reverse is also true.

When you support the body, you support the mind.

When you calm the nervous system, your thoughts naturally soften.

When you feel balanced, you think more clearly, breathe deeper, and move through life with more ease.

In East Asian medicine, we don’t separate mental and physical health — they’re one system.

Acupuncture gently guides your body out of “fight or flight” and into “rest and restore.” It helps regulate stress hormones, improve mood, relax tension, and create space for healthier thought patterns and true healing.

Many patients come in for pain or sleep… and are surprised when they say,

“I just feel lighter.”
“Calmer.”
“More like myself again.”

That’s the mind-body connection at work 💙

Healing isn’t just about fixing symptoms — it’s about creating balance from the inside out.

If you’ve been carrying stress lately, you don’t have to hold it alone. We’re here to help you reset, recharge, and return to your natural state of calm.

Discover how positive thinking impacts physical health and how acupuncture helps regulate the nervous system, improve mood, and support whole-body wellness.

Insomnia isn’t just about sleep — it’s about balance 🌙

If you’re tossing and turning at night, it’s rarely because your body simply “forgot how to sleep.”
More often, it’s because something deeper is out of sync.

A busy mind.
Lingering stress.
Hormonal changes.
Digestive issues.
Pain.
Emotional overwhelm.

When the nervous system can’t fully relax, restful sleep feels out of reach.

In East Asian medicine, we don’t just ask how do we make you sleep?
We ask why isn’t your body able to rest in the first place?

Because sleep is a reflection of your overall health.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine work by gently guiding the body back into balance — calming the nervous system, improving circulation, easing tension, and helping your system shift into that natural “rest and repair” state.

And something beautiful often happens…

People come in for back pain, stress, or hormones and say,
“By the way… I’m sleeping so much better.”

When the body feels safe and supported, sleep returns naturally ✨

You don’t have to force it.
You don’t have to fight it.
Sometimes you just need to help your body remember how to rest.

Gentle. Natural. Root-cause care.

Struggling with insomnia? Learn how East Asian medicine identifies root causes and how acupuncture and herbal medicine support better sleep naturally and holistically.

Weather changes don’t just affect the forecast — they affect you, too 🌦️

Ever notice your joints ache before it rains… headaches pop up with pressure shifts… or your energy drops when the seasons change? That’s not in your head — it’s your body responding to the environment around you.

Both East Asian medicine and Western medicine recognize that weather has a real physiological impact. Changes in barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, and daylight can influence circulation, inflammation, mood, sleep, and stress levels.

In East Asian medicine, we see this as the body adapting (or struggling to adapt) to external “seasonal influences.” When your system is balanced, you flow through these changes with ease. When you’re depleted or stressed, symptoms show up.

That’s where acupuncture shines ✨

Acupuncture helps:

• improve circulation
• regulate the nervous system
• reduce inflammation
• ease muscle and joint discomfort
• support immunity
• stabilize mood and energy

In other words, it helps your body become more resilient — so you’re not at the mercy of every cold front, heat wave, or seasonal shift.

Think of it like tuning your system with the seasons instead of fighting against them.
Shadow or no shadow… your body deserves support all year long 🤍

If you’ve been feeling “off” with the weather lately, this might be your sign to come in and reset.

How weather impacts health from both East Asian and Western medicine perspectives. Learn how acupuncture supports seasonal health, relieves pain, and helps the body adapt.

Back pain isn’t always about the back 💙
Sometimes, it’s the body asking for help elsewhere.

Foot imbalances, knee discomfort, tight hips or legs, old injuries, and even posture habits can create a ripple effect through the entire body. When one area is off, the rest has to compensate—and over time, that compensation can show up as chronic back pain.

Acupuncture looks at the whole picture, not just where it hurts. By improving circulation, easing muscle tension, calming the nervous system, and restoring balance throughout the body, treatment helps address the root causes of discomfort—not just the symptoms.

When the body moves better as a whole, the back doesn’t have to work so hard. And that’s where real, lasting relief begins ✨

Back pain is often caused by issues in the feet, knees, or posture. Learn how acupuncture treats back pain by addressing the whole body naturally.

Mindfulness isn’t about sitting perfectly still or clearing your mind for hours 🌿
It’s about how you live.
It’s choosing how you move your body, how you nourish yourself, how you speak to others—and to yourself. It’s pausing to breathe before reacting. It’s noticing what your body needs instead of pushing through exhaustion.
Those small, intentional moments add up. Over time, they create powerful shifts in your energy, your stress levels, your sleep, and your overall health.
Acupuncture supports mindful living from the inside out. By calming the nervous system, easing tension, and restoring balance, it helps your body slow down so your mind can follow. Many people notice they feel more present, more grounded, and more in tune with themselves—on and off the table.
Mindfulness isn’t another thing to do.
It’s a way of being.
And when your body feels supported, it becomes a whole lot easier to live that way ✨

Mindfulness is more than meditation. Learn how intentional living, mindful movement, and acupuncture support mental clarity, stress relief, and whole-body health.

It’s Penguin Appreciation Day 🐧💙

Penguins are Dr. Katrina’s favorite animal, and for good reason. They remind us of the power of joy, connection, and a little playfulness — all of which have a meaningful impact on our health. Taking time to appreciate the things that make us smile helps calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and support emotional well-being.

Just like joy and gratitude nourish the mind, acupuncture helps restore balance within the body, supporting physical, mental, and emotional health. When the body is in balance, it’s easier to feel calm, grounded, and genuinely happy.

Today is a perfect reminder to celebrate what you love, embrace moments of lightness, and care for your health in ways that feel good — because wellness isn’t just about treating symptoms, it’s about enjoying life along the way 💙

Celebrate Penguin Appreciation Day and discover how joy, appreciation, and acupuncture support mental, emotional, and physical health.

Healing isn’t instant — and that’s more than okay 🌿

Most health concerns don’t appear overnight. They develop gradually through stress, lifestyle, injuries, and life’s demands — and true healing unfolds the same way. It’s a process, not a race.

Being gracious with yourself is part of healing. Progress may come in layers, with good days and challenging days along the way. That doesn’t mean you’re going backward — it means your body is doing the work it needs to do.

Choosing care that supports lasting balance makes all the difference. Acupuncture helps guide your body back to health — gently, naturally, and sustainably.

Healing takes time. Learn why being gracious with yourself supports long-term health and how acupuncture helps guide the body toward sustainable healing.

Acupuncture treats so much more than pain 🌿
While it’s incredibly effective for migraines, back pain, joint pain, and tension, acupuncture also supports anxiety, stress, sleep issues, digestion, hormonal balance, immune health, and overall well-being.

By addressing the root cause of imbalance, acupuncture treats the whole person — not just isolated symptoms. That means fewer appointments with multiple providers and a more connected, comprehensive approach. 💙

Our Story

Mission Statement:

At Karma Zen Acupuncture, we work to always achieve outstanding results for our patients by providing them personalized care through acupuncture and other complimentary therapies.

Our Clinic:

Karma Zen Acupuncture is part of the Bee Creek Clinic. Our practice is located in the Bee Creek Business Park, along with Dr. Larry Mann, DC, of Pedernales Chiropractic. As Spicewood continues to grow, we are happy to be a part of this wonderful community and to support people’s health using a naturalistic approach with an ancient medicine that has withstood the test of time. Our acupuncturist is local resident Dr. Katrina Giangarra, DACM., L.Ac., Dipl. O.M. She loves the serene nature and scenic beauty of the Spicewood area, and she wanted to start her practice here because she saw an opportunity to make acupuncture more accessible to the community. She loves seeing the positive impact acupuncture has on her patients, an impact she has also experienced firsthand.
