Checking the Atlas (first cervical bone) is something we do at every single visit. Especially in babies and children.
Why? Because so may nerves exit the brain and travel very closely to this bone and even slight rotation and tension in that area can effect how babies feel and act.
One major nerve that everyone is talking about these days is the Vagus Nerve. Its functions are widespread and include: heart rate, immune function, breathing, swallowing and speaking (just to name a few).
In kids, dysfunction with the vagus nerve might look like: colic, reflux, irritability, constipation, and increased risk of ear infections.
The vagus nerve travels in the carotid sheath just in front of the Atlas. Thus making sure there is minimal tension to the bone, fascia, nerve complex by checking and adjusting subluxations there can have outstanding positive effects for kids and adults.
Get your kiddos (and yourself) checked by a chiropractor to help your nervous system function. ✨
