Why does your pain keep coming back?
Because the muscle isn’t the real problem.
Pain often returns not because the tissue wasn’t worked on…
but because the pattern was never changed.
Muscles have habits.
And habits live in the brain.
If your nervous system has learned to guard your neck, brace your hips, or lock your shoulders forward… it will keep recreating that tension long after the massage ends.
You can stretch it.
You can dig into it.
You can temporarily loosen it.
But if the brain still believes that pattern is necessary?
It comes back.
This is why I focus so heavily on resetting muscle habits and not just releasing them.
Strain-counterstrain, gentle joint compression, craniosacral work, nervous system regulation… these techniques communicate safety to the brain.
And when the brain feels safe, it stops reinforcing the old tension pattern.
That’s when pain actually begins to resolve instead of recycle.
Temporary relief feels good.
Pattern change feels different.
That’s where real progress lives.
