Massage transformation of the Iliotibial band!

The Iliotibial(IT) band is a thick band of connective tissue that runs along the outside of the thigh, from the hip to the knee. It plays a crucial role in the alignment and movement of the leg at the hip and knee joints.

Before massage: The IT band is tight, leading to lateral/external rotation of the leg. A tight IT band can cause discomfort in the knee, hip, and low back.

After massage: The leg sits in a more neutral position with the knee and foot in line with the hip!

To bring about this new resting position, I utilized a combination of methods aimed at stretching and relaxing the IT band. Specifically, cross-fiber friction was employed to effectively break up any adhesions present in the fascia(connective tissue). Additionally, contract-relax, in conjunction with stretching, was utilized to elongate the fascia and establish a new resting length.

Hello, my name is Alli and I am the (soon to be) massage therapist behind Ritual Touch Bodywork! I started this journey 11 months ago now and while I had planned to share more of my journey through massage therapy school on here, well, life was just too busy! Going to school and working full time was a very hard road to navigate, but here I am nearing the end and I am excited to be able to be more active on here!
