Meet Carol Hendershot:

I’ve worked as a PT for 44 years. I have been with Joya for over 35 years. Even though I “officially retired” last July, you may still see me at Joya helping with an initial evaluation or filling in for someone on leave or vacation. My work is rewarding because I love seeing the joy on children’s faces when they achieve a new skill. The pride the parents have in their child’s accomplishments is awesome to see as well.

Since retiring, my husband and I have done some traveling. When I am at home I enjoy quilting, making cards, and ringing and directing handbells. I also volunteer time with the Whitworth pediatric PT class.

I am looking forward my new role as mother-in-law, as our son recently announced his engagement!

In 1960, the dedicated Guilds’ ladies who founded the Spokane Guilds’ School, now Joya, made a heartfelt promise: To be there for every child. Now, 65 years later, that promise is still at the core of everything we do. At the heart of what we do is this promise: No child will be left behind because of financial hardship. Every family receives the care, support, and love they need - because that’s what Joya stands for.

Meet Cheryl Morgan:

I’ve had the pleasure of working at Joya (formerly the Spokane Guild’s School and Neuromuscular Center) for 33 years. This is my first and only job in my field following college. I completed my undergraduate physical therapy degree at the University of Montana in 1991 and my graduate physical therapy degree through the University of Montana in 2016. Go Griz! I love working at Joya as an early intervention physical therapist with the birth to three age group because it’s a time in development when the brain is changing rapidly and most adaptable for intervention to be the most effective. I love that Joya is a non-profit organization and provides services based on need and not ability to pay. I love assisting and witnessing children grow and learn new skills, especially the children of parents who were told their child would never be able to hold their head up, roll, sit, crawl, or walk.

I am married and live with my husband, Kevin, and our dog, Willow, in the Mount Spokane area. I am a Spokane native and I love all things outdoors, especially downhill skiing and sea kayaking. One of my favorite things to do is kayak camping. I have kayaked and camped extensively in the San Juan Islands as well as the BC Gulf Islands, the inside passage from Ketchikan to Petersburg, and locally.
