Gabriels Challenge, thank you for the work you’re doing to shine a light on community resources and lifting up our recovery community.
Today I learned about CAT Spokane and I thought it was pretty amazing. They have walk in support along with Suboxone, peer support, housing help, case management, and outpatient substance use disorder services. They even offer same day appointments. I did not know these services existed. It makes me think about how many programs Gabriel never knew about either, even though we tried everything and went everywhere.
Gabriel had moments when he was on Suboxone. He struggled with the schedule, but he was also dealing with housing instability and all the barriers that make recovery so hard. Learning about programs like this shows how important it is for people to know what is available.
When someone is using fentanyl or any other substance, when they say they are ready, you have to be able to get them in right away. There has to be something available in that moment. If the moment passes, if they change their mind, or if they use again, it is usually a wrap. Most of the time they do not come back.
This is why same day access is everything. Programs can offer incredible support, but it does not reach people if they cannot get in during the moment they try to reach for help.
For Gabriel’s Challenge, I want our community to know that help exists. These moments of readiness matter and we cannot afford to miss them. These awesome ladies have turned our lives around and now doing everything they can to get others to turn theirs around to. I didn’t know them before but I do now and I am so proud of them.
One day at a time. These folks understand because they’ve gone through it. I think the greatest part of my day is listening to people stories of recovery. I must set up a studio to record these amazing encouraging stories. I’m so glad I gave her a challenge can be the place where people learn where they can go to help their loved ones start on their path of recovery.
