Hello! About a decade ago I walked into a gym knowing absolutely nothing. A few years later I found myself graduating from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist. Fast forward a few more years from that and I was graduating from Therapeutic Connections School of Massage as a Washington Licensed Massage Therapist. Hot take: your hips (the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex) are a bowl of your favorite hot soup.
If your hips tip forward, backward, or collapse to one side, the soup spills. Every time. šŸ’”
That’s what excessive anterior tilt, posterior tuck, or lateral shift actually is—loss of containment.
The mistake is trying to stabilize the bowl by squeezing it.
The pelvis isn’t meant to lock itself down.
It’s meant to be supported from underneath.
That’s where the legs come in.
The way the legs develop strongly resembles a root system—long, twisting, branching structures designed to bend, adapt, and distribute load. Roots don’t create stability through rigidity; they create it through responsiveness.
When the feet, calves, hamstrings, and inner thighs are doing their job, the pelvis stays level without force. The sacrum can suspend. The spine can move. Strength feels strong—not stiff.
Stable hips don’t come from gripping harder.
They come from better roots.
Treat your legs like the roots they are, keep the bowl level, and suddenly there’s no panic about spilling the soup—no matter how deep the squat or how dynamic the movement.
