🌟 One Small Change for Stronger Hands! 🖐️

Did you know simple play can make a big difference in fine motor skills? Try these easy ideas at home:

Muffin tins & ice cube trays – Picking up small items builds precision and control.
Coloring with broken crayons – Supports grasp and hand strength.
Playdough – A super fun way to strengthen little hands!
Stickers, stickers, stickers – Pinching and placing them improves dexterity and coordination.

Small, fun activities every day = stronger, more confident little hands! 💛

April is OT Month! 🧡

We are so grateful for our incredible occupational therapists—our team truly wouldn’t be the same without them! Occupational therapy helps individuals build independence in everyday activities, improve emotional and self-regulation, and even support memory and cognitive skills.

Here are the amazing OTs who support both adults and children in our community every day:

✨ Blair – You can find Blair at our Columbia Clinic most days, though she also visits our Spring Hill Clinic regularly.

✨ Claire – When Claire isn’t working with clients, she’s enjoying time in her garden or with her husband.

✨ Faith – Faith can be found at our main clinic in Spring Hill, but don’t worry—she also visits our Columbia Clinic! When she isn’t at work, you can find her with her hubby and puppy or adventuring to a new coffee shop. (not pictured)

✨ Grace – Grace splits her time between our sister clinic, Rise Up, and our Spring Hill Clinic.

✨ Hannah – A former teacher, Hannah now brings her love of learning to her work as an OT!

✨ Jeryl – Jeryl has been with Arise Therapies for 6 years and is a proud mom to two teenage daughters.

✨ Kariann – Mostly at our Spring Hill clinic, Kariann enjoys spending time with her three kids when she’s not helping clients.

✨ Kayce – Our OT Lead Assistant and Columbia native, Kayce loves giving back to her community.

✨ Morgan – One of our OT Leads, Morgan spends most of her week at Rise Up but still finds time to visit our main Spring Hill Clinic.

✨ Rob – Rob is a kid at heart and loves working with all kinds of kiddos. He’s also a family man who enjoys the outdoors with his wife and children.

✨ Sam – Sam splits her week between Arise and Rise Up, making sure to spend time with all of our friends at both clinics.

✨ Sydney – Another OT Lead, Sydney primarily works at our Spring Hill and Columbia clinics. She loves traveling and spending time with her family.

Thank you to all our OTs for the passion, skill, and heart you bring to your work every single day! 💛

Just like spring brings new flowers, therapy brings new milestones. 🌷

At first, progress can feel small… but over time those small moments grow into something beautiful.

🌱 First sounds
🌱 First steps
🌱 New independence

“See! The winter is past… flowers appear on the earth.” — Song of Solomon 2:11–12

We love celebrating every bloom of progress with our families. 💛

Big things are coming to Pinkerton Park! 🌿

On Thursday, March 26th at 12:00 PM, we’ll be installing a communication board to help support language, connection, and inclusive play for every child—and we’d love for you to join us!

This board is designed to give children a voice while they play 💬 Featuring pictures, symbols, and words, it supports individuals who use AAC while also encouraging language development, social interaction, and connection for children of all abilities.

We’re so grateful to partner with and the City of Franklin Parks & Recreation Department to bring this meaningful addition to our community.

Come celebrate with us and see how something as simple as visuals can open the door to communication, inclusion, and play for all 💛

Handwriting actually starts before letters ever appear on the page!

Children first practice pre-writing strokes like vertical lines ⬇️, horizontal lines ➡️, circles ⭕, and crosses ➕. These simple shapes are the building blocks that help prepare little hands for writing.

You can practice these skills in fun ways using crayons 🖍️, drawing with chalk outside 🌞, or even making shapes in shaving cream 🫧. Play-based learning is a great way to strengthen fine motor skills and get kids ready for handwriting! 💪🖐️

“Give me a myth to bust about OT.”
…oh we thought you’d never ask. 😏

Somewhere along the way, occupational therapy got misunderstood.
No, we don’t just help people find jobs.
No, it’s not “just for kids.”
And no… we don’t only work on handwriting.

At Arise Therapies, we’re here to break the myths, build real-life skills, and make therapy both effective and fun. 💪✨

Got something you’ve heard about OT that doesn’t quite sound right?

We believe deeply in the power of prayer and the strength of community. That’s why each of our locations (Spring Hill and Columbia) has a prayer box—a quiet place to share prayers, worries, and praises and entrust them to God.

📖 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
— Philippians 4:6

Take a moment to pause, pray, and rest in the assurance that He hears every prayer. 🙏

✨ One Small Change ✨

📚 Early Language Tip: Take a trip to your local library! Many libraries offer story times and simple crafts that help build early language skills, strengthen listening, and provide valuable peer interaction—especially for children who spend most of their time at home with caregivers.

🗣️ Articulation Tip: Set aside a consistent 10–15 minutes each day to practice your child’s target sound using gentle cues and positive feedback. Everyday moments count—car rides are a great time to play “I Spy” with objects that include their speech sound!

Simple routines + everyday moments = meaningful progress 💛

Winter Feeding Tip ❄️🍽️
Messy food play is a great way to help picky eaters feel more comfortable exploring new foods! Using laminated or protected pictures as a “drawing pad” turns mealtime into a fun, low-pressure activity while supporting sensory exploration and curiosity. 🍓🎨
A little mess today can help build confident eaters tomorrow!
