Did you know? The tiny muscles just under your skull 📣the suboccipital muscles 🚨 play a HUGE role in how your head feels every day.
🔎 Anatomy 101:
These 4 pairs of small muscles sit right at the base of your skull (the occipital area). They connect your head to the top vertebrae of your neck. Even though they’re small, they’re responsible for fine head movements — like nodding “yes” or turning your head slightly to the side.
💆 Why work on them?
• They hold a lot of hidden tension from poor posture, phone use, and stress.
• Trigger points here can cause tension headaches, eye strain, even dizziness.
• Releasing them improves blood flow and takes pressure off nerves that run up into the scalp.
🌟 Amazing fact most people don’t know:
These muscles have one of the highest concentrations of sensory nerve endings in the whole body , which means they act like “motion sensors” for your head and neck. When they’re tight, your brain literally gets confused about your posture, making pain worse.
So next time you feel that nagging headache or neck ache, remember that sometimes the answer is in the smallest muscles with the biggest impact. 🌿
