Middle school can feel like a roller coaster for both you and your child. 🎢 Why ride it alone?

Our Middle School Multi-Family Program is officially enrolling! This 12-week journey is uniquely designed for one parent and one tween (ages 10-14) to grow together. Instead of the "growing pains" pulling you apart, use this time to build a bridge of communication that lasts.

✨ Turning "tough conversations" into connecting moments.
✨ Navigating the social and academic pressures of middle school.
✨ Building a foundation of mutual trust and confidence.

🗓️ Launching: This month!
⏰ When: Wednesdays, 5:00 – 6:00 PM
💰 Investment: $1,499 (includes both parent and tween)

➡️ We have a few limited spots left! DM us or call today to secure yours and start 2026 on the same page.

🔄 Tool of the Week: The "Opposite Action" Practice

When our kids struggle with low self-esteem or social anxiety, their brain’s first instinct is often avoidance. 🛑 It tells them: "Don't raise your hand," "Don't join that table," or "Don't try out for the team."

The problem? Avoidance keeps them stuck. Every time they avoid, the anxiety grows stronger.

This week, try teaching them the DBT skill: Opposite Action. When anxiety tells them to pull away, we help them gently lean in. 🤝

How to practice it with your child:

1️⃣ Identify the Urge: Help them put words to the feeling. "I don't want to go to the party because I'm afraid no one will talk to me."
2️⃣ Name the Emotion: Is it fear? Shame? Embarrassment?
3️⃣ Check the Facts: Ask, "Is this fear based on a real danger right now, or a 'what if' about the future?"
4️⃣ Do the Opposite (Gently): Don't jump into the deep end! Start small. If raising a hand in class is too scary, start by staying after to ask the teacher one question.
5️⃣ Notice the Result: Did the "scary thing" happen? Usually, it doesn't. And even if it does, they learn a powerful lesson: They can survive it.

Helping our kids approach their fears gradually is how we build true, lasting confidence. 🌟

✨ The Most Important Relationship You’ll Ever Have

“Your value does not come from how much other people want to be with you, but by how much you want to be with yourself.” — Daniel Sloss

We spend so much of our lives trying to be "chosen." We want to be the preferred parent, the indispensable employee, the liked friend, or the perfect partner. We tie our worth to how much others seek us out, often leaving us feeling empty when we’re finally alone. 🕊️

But what if the goal wasn't to be wanted by everyone else? What if the goal was to build a life—and a version of yourself—that you actually enjoy spending time with?

When you stop outsourcing your value to other people’s opinions, everything changes. You start:
🛑 Setting boundaries that protect your peace.
🌿 Speaking to yourself with more kindness.
💪 Making choices based on your values, not their expectations.

Therapy is the work of becoming your own best advocate. It’s about clearing away the noise of everyone else’s "wants" so you can finally hear your own.

Ready to start enjoying your own company?

This Valentine’s Day, Give Your Relationship a Foundation, Not Just a Bouquet 🌹

Valentine’s Day often puts a lot of pressure on the "big gestures"—the perfect dinner, the right card, or the most beautiful flowers. But the most romantic thing you can do for your partner isn't found in a gift box; it’s found in the intentional work of staying connected.

Real love isn't just a feeling; it’s a series of skills: communication, repair, and the courage to be vulnerable. 🕊️

Couples therapy isn't a "last resort" or a sign that you’re failing. It’s a proactive way to:
🗣️ Deepen Communication: Learn to hear what’s really being said beneath the surface.
🛠️ Build a Repair Kit: Discover how to navigate conflict without leaving scars.
🌱 Nurture Growth: Support each other through the big life shifts—like career changes or the transition into parenthood.

Whether you're in a "winter" season of your relationship or you just want to ensure your "spring" lasts, therapy provides the space to ensure you’re growing together, rather than apart.

This year, invest in a love that lasts long after the roses fade.

✨ The One Thing You Can’t Give Up On

“You are the one thing in this world, above all other things, that you must never give up on.” — Lili Reinhart

When life gets heavy—especially in the thick of parenthood, career shifts, or personal transitions—it is so easy to put yourself at the bottom of the priority list. We fight for our kids, our partners, and our work, but we often let ourselves drift to the background. 🕊️

But here is the truth: You are the foundation. If the foundation isn't supported, eventually, everything built on top of it feels the strain. Choosing to invest in your mental health isn't "extra"—it’s essential. It is a declaration that you believe your peace, your healing, and your future are worth fighting for.

Therapy is the ultimate way to show up for yourself. It’s a space where:
🕯️ Your feelings are the priority.
🌱 Your growth is the focus.
💪 Your resilience is honored.

You’ve spent so much time taking care of everyone else. Isn't it time someone took care of you?

💻 Don't give up on your well-being. Book your first session today and let’s start moving forward: https://connectionsfamilycenter.com/contact/

💳 Tool of the Week: The Insurance Reality Check

Financial surprises shouldn't be part of your healing process. Before you sit down for your first session, having a clear picture of your coverage can take the "what ifs" off the table.

Grab your insurance card and ask these three vital questions:
1️⃣ What is my deductible, and how much have I met? This is the most important number. It tells you your true out-of-pocket cost before your insurance starts "picking up the tab."
2️⃣ What is the contracted session rate, and what will I actually pay? Don't settle for estimates! Ask for the specific dollar amount of your co-pay or co-insurance so you can budget accurately.
3️⃣ Are there alternative options? If your insurance isn't a great fit, ask about "Sliding Scale" rates for self-pay or out-of-network benefits. You might have more flexibility than you think!

Knowledge is power. When you understand the costs upfront, you can focus entirely on your wellness instead of your wallet. 🧠💪

🗓️ Tool of the Week: The January Blues Check-In

The "holiday high" has faded, the weather is grey, and the stretch until spring can feel incredibly long. But how do you know if you're just having a slow month or if it's something more?

Use these questions to check in with yourself:

✅ Duration: Has this lasted more than two weeks?
✅ Functioning: Is it affecting your ability to complete basic tasks or get out of bed?
✅ Interest: Have you lost interest in things you usually enjoy?
✅ Isolation: Are you consistently withdrawing from everyone, even people you love?
✅ Irritability: Do you feel a level of "snapping" or anger that feels out of proportion?
✅ Hope: Do you feel hopeless about things getting better?

The Rule of Three: If you answered "yes" to 3 or more of these, it’s time to reach out. Not because you’re failing, but because you deserve a professional partner to help you navigate this season. 🕊️

💪 The Strength You’ve Already Shown

“My dark days made me stronger. Or maybe I already was strong, and they made me prove it.” — Emery Lord

Often, we come to therapy because we feel like we’ve reached our breaking point. We feel "weak" for struggling with the heavy layers of parenthood, grief, or the daily mental load.

But look at the evidence: You have navigated every "dark day" you’ve faced so far. You have showed up when it was hard. You have cared for others while carrying the weight of your own world.

That isn't weakness. That is the proof of your strength. 🕊️

Therapy isn't about "fixing" someone who is broken; it’s about providing a safe space for someone who is strong to finally set their bags down. It’s about learning to use that strength to heal, rather than just survive.

You’ve already proven you’re strong. Now, let’s work on making sure you’re supported.
