Connections Child and Family Center

Connections Child and Family Center We help overwhelmed & disconnected families move to feeling calm & connected. Therapy that WORKS. We also have an Outpatient Eating Disorders Program.

We are a boutique child, teen, and family focused group of healing professionals. We specialize in helping people with big feelings and big behaviors. Issues with mood, anxiety and stress, trauma recovery, eating disorders, and behavior problems often bring people to us. We offer a comprehensive DBT Program for teens and adults struggling with mood and self-harm. We believe families are doing the best they can with what they know, and we help build on each person’s unique strengths. We do this by teaching coping tools, increasing emotional awareness, building empathy and compassion, and supporting understanding of self and others. Our team of experienced child psychologists and family counselors is dedicated to helping families in our community. We work with families in all their configurations; children, parents, women, couples, and siblings. We use the latest science & research based treatment approaches, combine them with expressive methods of play, art, or sand tray, & throw in some humor, playfulness, and support. We treat anxiety, ADHD, depression, autism, trauma, grief, self-esteem issues and more. We offer psychological testing to get an accurate diagnosis, group therapy, couples counseling, play therapy, nutrition evaluation and counseling, and family therapy. Let us help YOU build a life WORTH living.

🏡 International Stress Awareness Week: The Stress of Raising a Family

This International Stress Awareness Week, let's acknowledge the immense and often non-stop stress that parents and families manage every single day.

From managing schedules and school events to navigating financial pressures and the emotional needs of multiple people, family life can be a continuous source of stress. It’s vital to recognize the signs of stress in yourself, your partner, and your children.

A Reminder for Parents: You can't pour from an empty cup. Scheduling time for genuine rest, setting boundaries, and modeling healthy coping mechanisms are some of the best gifts you can give your family. Let's commit to fostering an environment where it's safe to say, "I need a break."

Another successful yearly team retreat in the books! ☀️🚤

We had an amazing time recharging, connecting, and building stronger bonds at beautiful Lake Conroe. From strategic planning sessions to relaxing boat rides, this retreat was the perfect blend of work and fun. Nothing beats getting the whole crew together to celebrate our achievements and map out our future!

Check out this collage for a peek at the fun! Already counting down the days until next year!

💡 Skill to Steal: The Therapist Consultation Guide

Choosing a therapist for your child can feel overwhelming, but asking the right questions makes all the difference. Don't settle for a mystery—find a trusted partner!
Here are 3 essential questions to ask when you're looking for a child's therapist:

1. "How will I be involved in my child's care?"
What to listen for: Partnership, collaboration, and parent coaching. You're part of the team!
2. "What does progress look like—and how will we know?"
What to listen for: A commitment to setting clear goals and regular communication about what’s working.
3. "What’s your approach when things get hard?"
What to listen for: Flexibility, trauma-informed care, and a focus on the relationship (not just the behavior).

Trust your instincts. You deserve to feel confident and supported in this process. ❤️

👻 Happy Halloween! 🧙♀️

As October comes to a close, so does our Fall Unity Campaign. We hope you enjoyed our daily challenges! Thank you all for participating and focusing on themes of connection, kindness, and community throughout the month.

As we transition into November and the upcoming holiday season, remember that the work of unity, self-compassion, and mental wellness continues. Don't forget the tools you practiced this month—whether it was taking a few minutes for mindful breathing, reaching out to a friend, or practicing gratitude.

🧡 From all of us to you and your family, we wish you a safe and fun Halloween!

👻 Welcome to the week of Halloween!

As we lead up to this fun holiday, try this simple practice:
After your child's therapy session, ask them to teach you ONE skill they practiced. Not a full recap—just one thing.
🤍 "Can you show me that breathing technique you talked about?"
🧡 "What was that phrase your therapist suggested when you're feeling angry?"
💛 When your child teaches you, they reinforce their own learning. Plus, you now have a shared tool to use together when things get tough.

➡️ Bonus: Notice when they use the skill on their own, and name it. "I saw you take those deep breaths before your presentation. That took real courage."

🤎 October is OCD Awareness Month 🤎

This month, we're highlighting the importance of proper diagnosis and evidence-based treatment for OCD and anxiety-related disorders.

OCD affects 1 in 100 adults and 1 in 200 children, yet it's often misunderstood. It's not about being neat or organized—it's intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors that can significantly impact daily life.

We're here to help. Our clinician Meredith Wiese specializes in OCD and anxiety-related disorder treatment, offering evidence-based approaches tailored to each individual's needs.

When you or your teen needs to ask for something or set a boundary, DEAR MAN helps you to communicate effectively:

D - Describe
E - Express
A - Assert
