"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today we honor Dr. King's legacy by reflecting on this powerful question. His life reminds us that true purpose is found in service, that our individual actions create collective change, and that justice requires each of us to show up for our communities.

How will you answer his question today?

💳 Tool of the Week: The Benefits Checkpoint

Financial uncertainty shouldn't be the thing that stands between you and your mental health. Before you book that first appointment of 2026, grab your insurance card and answer these three questions:

1️⃣ "What is my deductible, and how will I meet it?" Therapy sessions count toward your deductible! If you have ongoing medical needs, starting therapy in January helps you hit that threshold faster, meaning you'll pay less for healthcare later in the year.

2️⃣ "How many sessions does my plan cover?" Most plans cover 20–52 sessions per year. That’s enough for weekly support—but only if you start your care in January rather than waiting until June!

3️⃣ "Do I have FSA/HSA funds?" These dollars are specifically for healthcare. Use them strategically for therapy copays to make your mental health a pre-tax priority. 🧠💰

Not sure about your coverage? We’re here to help. We verify benefits for you so you know exactly what your plan covers before you commit to anything.

✨ The Power of Being You

“Being able to be your true self is one of the strongest components of good mental health.”
– Dr. Lauren Fogel Mersy

How much energy do you spend every day "masking," performing, or trying to meet everyone else’s expectations?

When we hide our true selves—our needs, our boundaries, and our honest feelings—it takes a massive toll on our mental well-being. Good mental health isn't about being "perfect" or always being happy; it’s about the freedom to be authentic.

Therapy is a dedicated, safe space where you can:
🌿 Drop the "performance" of having it all together.
🔍 Explore who you are beneath the roles of parent, partner, or professional.
💪 Build the confidence to show up as your true self in your daily life.

🗣️ Tool of the Week: The Teen Check-In Script 🤝

Is your teen shutting down after the holiday break? When they feel pressured, their natural response is often to pull away. This week, we’re sharing a simple script designed to open the door without triggering defensiveness.

Try this approach: "I’ve noticed you seem [tired/stressed/quieter] since school started back. I’m not trying to fix anything—I just want to understand what it’s like for you right now. Can you help me understand?"

The Key: Once they speak, listen without offering solutions. Simply reflect back what you hear:
"So it sounds like the workload feels heavier this semester."
"It sounds like lunch is the hardest part of your day."

Remember: Validation ≠ Agreement. You aren’t saying they are "right" or "wrong" to feel a certain way; you are simply saying, "I hear you." This builds the safety they need to keep talking.

🎄 When the Holidays Feel Heavy: A Truth for Caregivers 🕯️

The holiday season arrives wrapped in messages of joy and magic, but for many families, the reality is far more complex. Behind the festive photos, there is often a quieter truth: this time of year can be deeply stressful.

If you feel overwhelmed, drained, or pressured, you’re not alone—and your feelings make sense. Between the "Weight of Expectations" and the sensory overload of the season, it’s easy for even the most joyful traditions to feel like obligations.

Our latest blog post dives into why the holidays feel so heavy, including:
🧠 The mental and emotional load caregivers carry.
🎢 Why meltdowns (for kids and adults!) are more common right now.
🛑 Navigating tricky family dynamics and unsolicited advice.
📉 The pressure of financial stress and "doing enough."
🕊️ How to choose intentional simplicity over perfection.

Remember: Your household’s tension isn't a sign that something is wrong—it’s a sign that you are human. You are allowed to do the holidays differently this year.

📋 Tool of the Week: The Boredom Menu 🥪

Are you hearing "I'm bored" on repeat? This week, we’re helping your kids become their own problem-solvers with a Boredom Menu!

The goal is to have your kids generate a list of screen-free activities they actually enjoy. Categorize them to spark their creativity:

🎨 Make Something: Build a fort, create a card, or set up an obstacle course.
💃 Move Your Body: Have a dance party, go for a bike ride, or stretch.
🦄 Use Your Imagination: Play pretend, write a story, or draw.
🐶 Be With Someone: Teach the dog a trick or interview a family member.
📚 Get Cozy: Read a book, listen to music, or organize a shelf.

The Pro Tip: Post the menu on the fridge. When boredom strikes, redirect them to the list they created! You aren't just filling time; you're teaching them to manage their own downtime.
