I want to have a chat about social media and its ability to warp the mind into thinking what something has to be, in order to work or feel good, when it doesn’t.
All over our social media Yoga & Pilates studios have become places of high fashion and disregard for their true nature of practice. Some spaces can feel cliquish or exclusive if you don’t quite fit the mold or have the right handbag.
Now, I’ll be honest when I say we are a mix of modern practice and a touch of traditional. So no, we aren’t reading you the yamas and the niyamas but we also aren’t going to say you should all wear the same clothes so our space looks good on socials either. I love aesthetics, and I also think matching sets are super cute BUT they are not what makes a practice good and they are not a representation of what Yoga & Pilates are. They are not required.
They are not what creates results in the mind, body and breath. They are pretty. They definitely can make you feel good, but the real practice comes from your commitment to yourself, and the story you write within, on and off the mat.
It’s hard to really get out everything I feel about this topic into a teeny tiny post you may not actually read but I want you to know that you’re welcomed in this space with or without all the matching pretty things.
None of us care if your hair isn’t done, you have mismatched socks or sweatpants on from 7 years ago. We are here for you without all the antarayas (mental distractions).
Just show up in what makes you feel good and makes you want to work on yourself and leave the outside world for an hour or two while you’re here.
See you soon friend. Lots of love on this Sunday from your local Yoga & Pilates studio in Klein, Texas
