Happy Valentine’s Day from me and my forever Valentine 💕
Today we spent part of the day at her pulmonology appointment, and just like always, she was all smiles. My sweet girl may have cerebral palsy, but what she has even more of is strength, courage, and a light that brightens every room she enters.
She teaches me every single day what real love and resilience look like. I couldn’t be prouder to be her parent. My heart is always yours, baby girl — today and every day. ❤️🌹

New Episode is Live 🎙️
Wired and Tired: Calming Caregiver Anxiety Without Shame
If you’ve ever felt like your body never fully powers down… even on a “good” day… this one is for you.

Today I’m sitting down with Keri Aschoff, licensed professional counselor and fellow mom, to talk about what caregiver anxiety really looks like in our bodies. We talk about burnout. The low hum of irritability. That heavy dread feeling. The wired and exhausted at the same time energy that so many of us live in.
And we talk about something that matters so much:
You are not doing it wrong.

Your nervous system has been protecting you and your child for years. It just may need help recalibrating.

Keri shares practical tools you can start today, including:
• How to “save the 9s and 10s for the ER”
• The PACE framework for hard days
• The jellyfish muscle release
• Why hydration actually matters
• How connection after a hard moment can calm your body more than problem solving ever will

This episode is honest, practical, and deeply validating for parents raising medically complex kids or children with extra needs.
You are not broken.
You are not weak.
You are a caregiver who has been in the trenches.

And if it speaks to you, share it with another mama who needs to hear it. 💛

For Black History Month, we honor Johnnie Lacy.

A Black civil rights pioneer and leader in the Independent Living Movement, she was initially denied entry into a speech pathology program because of her disability. She graduated in 1960 but was not allowed to walk at her own commencement.

She went on to help found the Center for Independent Living in Berkeley and spent her life fighting the systemic barriers that kept people with disabilities out of full participation in society. Her advocacy helped pave the way for the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Her story reminds us that disability justice and racial justice are deeply connected.

At Live Well. Love Strong., we stand with families still navigating systems that were not built with them in mind.

Access matters. Dignity matters. Belonging matters.

Today we honor Lois Curtis and the freedom her courage helped secure for people with disabilities.

Lois spent nearly 20 years in institutions. Her case led to the Supreme Court decision Olmstead v. L.C., which affirmed that unnecessary institutionalization is discrimination under the law. That ruling strengthened the rights of people with disabilities to live in their communities, not behind locked doors.

Now, that progress is being challenged in Texas.

HB 653 has passed the House and is now before the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence. This bill could weaken important guardianship protections for young adults with disabilities when they turn 18, making it easier to impose permanent guardianship without meaningful due process.

Track the bill here:

Please contact the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence and urge them to keep current protections in place. Our kids deserve thoughtful safeguards, not rushed or permanent decisions.

Bad Bunny took the Super Bowl stage and sent a powerful message about love, culture, and belonging. That message hits home for caregivers and parents of children with disabilities. Diversity and inclusion affect our community and every community. Our children deserve a world where they are welcomed, supported, and can belong. Love looks like making room for every family, every story, and every child.

Physical therapy with cerebral palsy looks like this:
• Showing up, even when it’s hard
• Joking through the work
• Building strength one rep at a time
• Celebrating every win
PT rocks — and so does this kid 🤘💪
If you or your child have done PT, what helped you stay motivated?

Forgot the feeding syringe.
Forgot the extension.
Remembered after we were already out the door.
Caregiving is basically a sport at this point 🏃‍♀️
Tell me I’m not the only one.

Our first episode of Season 2 is live, and it’s an important one.
When Love Isn’t Enough: Finding Help for the Hardest Behaviors is a real conversation about aggressive behaviors, self-injury, and property destruction, and the moment many caregivers reach when love and grit alone are no longer enough.
Our guest, Jaime Hrobar, shares her journey navigating neuro-behavioral centers, advocating for her child, and finally finding a plan that brought relief. She speaks honestly about what she learned, what she wishes she had known sooner, and why asking for help is not giving up.

This episode is heavy. We cried. We laughed. And we held space for every caregiver who has been told to “just hang in there” while carrying more than most people see.
