Children's Safety Center of Washington County

Children's Safety Center of Washington County Behind every handprint there’s a story… Many recognize the CSC for the colorful handprints on our walls, providing an environment full of hope.

The handprints are the heart of the CSC mission. The handprints remind not only the team, but also, anyone who walks through our doors that it is society’s responsibility to support and assist child victims of abuse and their non-offending family members. The CSC’s expectation is that alleged child victims of abuse are brought to the center so their immediate and ongoing needs will be met in a discreet, comforting, and nonthreatening manner, enabling the investigation process to be more efficient and less traumatizing. The CSC assists and brings together law enforcement, prosecutors, child protection professionals, and health practitioners. Our goal is for the child to disclose their abuse once during the investigation, so they will not be traumatized over-and-over by the investigation. The CSC supports and connects the alleged child victims and families to community resources, as needed. The CSC offers five free programs: advocacy for the child and family, forensic interviews, forensic medical exams, therapy, and prevention education training.

Celebrating Emily’s lucky number THIRTEEN years as the CSC’s Development Director!!☘️✨

Emily is a master event planner, the loudest voice for our organization, and always ready to have fun. She has poured her blood, sweat, and tears (literally, we host major events) into her time at the CSC, and we are so much better for it.

Emily’s vision for this new facility has helped ensure the demand for our services can continue to be met, and now she, along with her team, is finding new ways we can financially support our services with a major loss of grant funding.

Help us celebrate Emily and all her hard work!!🩵

Our community’s kids need us now more than ever. 🧥💙

The Farmington Police Department is hosting a Coat Drive benefiting the Children's Safety Center of Washington County, running November 24 – December 14 at Farmington City Hall.

The Children’s Safety Center plays a critical role in protecting and supporting children who have experienced abuse. They provide forensic interviews, medical exams, crisis intervention, expert testimony, and ongoing support for families—all essential services that directly assist law enforcement and the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

Recently, the CSC has faced significant funding cuts, even while seeing a 15% increase in children served this year. These shortages directly impact the staff who respond to children in crisis. Thanks to support from Washington County leaders, some of this gap has been addressed—but there is still much work to do.

That’s why community support matters.

By donating a new or gently used coat, you’re helping ensure that children facing incredibly difficult circumstances can stay warm this winter. It’s a simple way to show them they are seen, valued, and supported.

As many of you know, despite our rising numbers, the Children’s Safety Center (CSC) was not left untouched by significant funding changes that devastated nonprofits across the region.

We will be finishing our year up 15% in children served. At the same time, we are starting our year down $435,000 in essential funding—funding that covers the salaries of the staff who provide direct crisis intervention to hundreds of children across Washington County.

Last night was a huge victory and relief for our team. Washington County Quorum Court voted to provide county funding that will help keep our crisis intervention team intact. We are thankful for their commitment to our most valuable resource—our children.

Something you may not know about our comprehensive services is the support we provide for the Washington County Prosecutor's Office and law enforcement across the county.

Our team offers:
-Expert testimony
-Support for children and families who are testifying
-Forensic Interviews that are recorded and used throughout the investigation
-Forensic Medical Exams to collect critical evidence

When you see these cases come across the news, almost always our team has provided support at some point in the process.

We are thankful to the leaders of Washington County for being part of the solution. Our team is feeling empowered and hopeful that we will be able to fill the rest of these funding gaps and start 2026 stronger than ever before.

We also hope this is a signal to counties across the state whose local advocacy centers are facing the same funding challenges—many of whom have had to furlough staff. Research consistently shows that intervening in abuse during childhood and adolescence, specifically using the coordinated team approach, reduces crime, trauma, substance abuse, and other negative outcomes in adulthood.

Supporting advocacy centers is directly supporting the future of our communities. Thank you to every person who sees our work and the value in it. We could not do it without you.
