In Loving Memory of Robert “Bob” Mathis
May 5, 1959 – November 23, 2025

Robert “Bob” Mathis was born on May 5, 1959, in Sanford, Florida, to Lex B. and Donna May Mathis. With his big smile, he carried with him a gentle warmth and a sincere kindness that remained the foundation of his character throughout his life.

On October 22, 1988, Bob married Denise Riggle in Shawnee, Kansas. Together, they welcomed their daughter in Shawnee and began a beautiful life built on love, loyalty, and a deep commitment to family. Their home was filled with laughter, support, and the quiet, steady presence that made Bob so beloved.

Bob had an extraordinary gift for connecting with people though his smile and laughter. He would smile and say hello to anyone who passed him, making others feel seen and welcomed. He never met a stranger. He formed relationships with genuine care, sincerity, and generosity—traits that endeared him to friends, coworkers, neighbors, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. He loved sports (Chiefs/Razorbacks), cars, and spending time with friends and family. To his family, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather.

Bob is survived by his wife, Denise Mathis; his children, Bree Mathis Phillips (Jarrod Phillips), Caleb Young, and Whitney Mathis Steinhauser (Dustin Steinhauser); and his beloved grandchildren, River, Summit, and Aiden Phillips, and Drake and Easton Steinhauser.

He will continue to live in the hearts of all who loved him.

Jimmy Leroy McKown
July 8, 1941 - November 22, 2025

Mr. Jimmy Leroy McKown, born July 8, 1941, passed away on 11/22/2025. He was born in a log cabin in Van Buren, AR, the son of the late Ida Mae (Kelly) McKown and Guy McKown. Jim was proceeded in death by his wife, of 56 years, Phyllis Jean (Redden) McKown, his parents and a grandson, Nathan Guy McKown. He is survived by sons Jeff (Nancy) and Scott (Kristi) McKown; loving grandchildren Rebecca (Josh) Zardin, Benjamin McKown (Sarah Grace) and Kaylee McKown, and 2 great-grandchildren, Luna and Juniper; two brothers,Jerry Don McKown (Kathryn) of Henderson, NV. & Guy Stanley McKown (Mary) of Hope, AR, a host of nieces, great nieces and great nephews of whom he was extremely fond and loved visiting them in South Arkansas. Honorable mention is also expressed to Diane Campbell, Jim's hired chauffer between 2021-22.

Jim enjoyed many lunches at the Bentonville Senior Citizen Center and expressed to Kristi that "it was a little extreme that Scott took away his car". Jim was known as a “jack of all trades”. He could accomplish anything he put his hands to. He held a bachelor’s degree in ministry from the Freewill Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN, a master’s degree in church history from Bob Jones University in South Carolina, and two PhDs from the University of Arkansas (history and soil physics). He spent most of his life in ministry, including building a church and a school as a missionary with his wife and boys in Puerto Rico. He also held many other professions along the way and once ran an entire Walmart Distribution Center in South Texas before moving to Pennsylvania to be the building lead plus run a brand-new WM Distribution Center.

Previously (enlisted 1959), Jim served in the U.S. Navy before being honorably discharged. He prided himself in the Navy & had lots of stories to tell his children and grandchildren. After the loss of his wife, Jim moved to Bentonville to live with his son, Scott. A lot of fun was had! He had his own bedroom and shared a Jack-N-Jill bath with young adult grandson, Ben. Ben stated it was like having a brother! Jim was nicknamed “Junior” as he was like the teenager of the family! He often babysat Kaylee (the youngest grand) from infanthood up, and they shared a close bond. In more recent years, he LOVED meeting his first great-granddaughter and was able to attend Luna’s first birthday party!! He got to meet his newest great-granddaughter, Juniper, before he passed. He loved all children!!!

He spent his final years (January 2023 – present) in Apple Creek in Centerton, AR. He also lived briefly in Bella Vista in a lovely, assisted living facility prior to Apple Creek. With his TV on which included westerns or other classic shows, as well as plenty of root beer and honey buns on hand (along with his harmonica), he was a happy camper! Even with an advanced stage of Alzheimer’s, he never lost his sense of humor and was always ready to provide a good joke.

A private family gathering will be held at a future date, when all the family can be present for an afternoon of story-telling!

Cremation provided by Westfield Chapel, Springdale, AR.
