As January comes to a close, we want to take a moment to highlight some important information for Thyroid Awareness Month. π¦ Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland with a huge job: it acts as the "control center" for your bodyβs metabolism. When this gland isn't functioning properly, it usually falls into one of two categories.
Think of it like a speedometer for your body:
π’ Hypothyroidism (Underactive) β When your thyroid is "hypo," things slow down. Your body isn't producing enough hormones, which can leave you feeling sluggish, cold, or noticing changes in your weight and mood. Itβs like your internal engine is idling too low.
β‘ Hyperthyroidism (Overactive) β When your thyroid is "hyper," things speed up. Your body is producing too many hormones, which can make you feel like your engine is racing. This can cause a fast heartbeat, heat sensitivity, or feelings of restlessness.
