The program includes a period of continuous movement designed to get your heart rate up, followed by a series of balance, strengthening and flexibility exercises intended to improve your mobility and independence. Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance (MBB) is a balance improvement program based on Tai Ji Quan principles. The twice-weekly, 24-week program incorporates a variety of movements from the traditional Tai Ji Quan art, with modifications specifically designed to train balance and movement control for daily life activities. The program consists of 8 core movement forms and movement drills that progress throughout the 24 week class period. Walk With Ease is a 6-week program from the Arthritis Foundation that is designed to help you make walking an important part of your everyday life. Walk With Ease can help you to reduce the pain and discomfort you may have due to arthritis, improve balance, strength and walking pace, build confidence in your ability to be physically active, and improve your overall health. Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance® – 12-week session meets every Tuesday and Thursday 10:30-11:30, starting Tuesday September 12th. This program is offered in person in the Health Science Building on Alden Street.

Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance® is an evidence-based falls prevention program based on a routine known as Simplified 24-Form Tai Ji Quan. TJQMBB consists of an 8-form core with built-in practice variations and a subroutine of Mini Therapeutic Movements. TJQMBB transforms martial arts movements into a tailored movement therapy aimed at improving postural stability, awareness and mindful control of body positioning in space, functional walking, coordination, range of motion around the ankle and hip joints, and leg muscle strength. It improves strength, balance, and mobility, and prevents falls in older adults and individuals with balance disorders. (TJQMBB.org)
