The Colorectal Cancer Alliance has had enough. Enough of the deadly cancer overlooked and rising in younger adults. Prairie Clinic has had enough too and we urge our patients to get screened. According to the Colorectal Cancer Aliance, Colorectal cancer is now the deadliest cancer in people under 50.

Screening can save lives.

Colorectal cancer is highly treatable with screening beginning at 45. Most people are familiar with colonoscopies, but did you know there are non-invasive screening tests that can be done at home? Options exist!

Here's why getting checked matters:
• Screening can find the warning signs of colorectal cancer, so you can take action to stop the disease
• Screening can also find colorectal cancer early, when treatment is most effective

Childhood obesity is rising fast, let's work together to change the story.

March 4, recognized as World Obesity Day, raises awareness of obesity, encourages action to address it, and asks the world population what their reason is to change their story of obesity.

According to the World Obesity Day web site, over 1 billion people are living with obesity and by 2035, a projected 1 in 2 people (or over half our global population) will be overweight or living with obesity. There is hope. Change your story of obesity and begin habits to support a healthy weight:

• Build balanced plates (protein + veggies + whole grains)
• Get moving! Even a quick walk counts
• Drink more water
• Prioritize good sleep
• Keep up with routine wellness checks

Hormonal imbalances impact both men and women. For women experiencing menopause, that can mean vaginal dryness, mood swings, weight gain and more.

For men with low testosterone, symptoms can include:

February Is Heart Health Awareness Month (and also known as American Heart Month).

Cancer Prevention Month is recognized in February. We should be mindful of the controllable risk factors and early symptoms.

Controllable risk factors for cancer:
*smoking
*unhealthy eating,
*physical inactivity
*excessive sun exposure

It is important to recognize these risk factors and be aware of potential early symptoms:
*unexplained weight loss
*pain
*fatigue
*fever
*skin changes
