The first step to setting yourself up for success in the day, comes from how you engage in your morning routine. If you find yourself lagging at the start of the day, consider the following:

⏰ No phone for 15 minutes: Avoid checking messages, emails, social media, etc immediately upon waking. This allows your brain and body to adjust without exposure to blue light or unnecessary information processing.
💧Water first: Before you reach for your morning jolt, drink a glass of water. Our bodies are dehydrated after sleeping and will perform better when we hydrate before caffeinate.
🧘‍♀️Move slowly: Stretch your body before you get out of bed. This will help your blood recirculate and will boost your focus.
🗓 Prepare for your day: Try to write down three goals or tasks that you want to prioritize for the day. This can be emotional or task driven.
🌞 Natural light: Get outside or near a window for at least minutes. Exposure to natural light helps lower cortisol levels and stimulates your brain to remain alert and focused. Doing this every couple hours through the day can help boost focus when you feel sluggish.

What is one of your favorite or preferred ways to get started in the day?

If you feel like things are "heavy" lately, you are not alone. As we prepare to embrace the Lunar New Year in February, we first need to acknowledge the final days of the Year of the Snake.

Consider the image of a snake shedding its skin. In the final stages, it is not pretty. It might even seem a little dramatic. We only notice what is happening because we actively see the process. The truth is, this process has been happening for a while - silently, though still uncomfortable.

That is why things feel heavy now - we are finally shedding the last bits of the previous year. 2025 felt weird for a reason, there was a lot happening and not a lot many of us could do in response. Very much like a snake shedding its skin, we were forced to just keep moving along. Now, we prepare for the Year of the Horse and all of the fast movement that will likely come with it. So now, maybe more than ever, is the perfect time to embrace slowness. Find grounding in the daily grind. Take breaks to enjoy and truly experience each moment. Make sure we are caring for ourselves in the way we need.

How will you spend the last weeks before the next Lunar New Year?

In the winter, productivity can look different. With the absence of the sun, our natural rhythm is also thrown off. If you find yourself struggling to meet the usual demands of the day consider the following:

❄Move Slowly: Our bodies naturally want to hibernate in the winter, allow yourself extra time to complete tasks
❄Prioritize Differently: Consider your task list, what is a "must do" and what is something that can be moved to another day or time?
❄Say no: When it feels too much, it likely is because it is. Rather than taking on more, consider what feels realistic and fair to your time and abilities in the moment.
❄Delegate: Ask for help when things feel too much - you are one person, use the resources available to you and seek outside support when needed.
❄Take breaks: If you find your mind wandering, or your body is feeling restless - these are signs that it is time for a break. Get up and move around, stretch your muscles, close your eyes for 5 minutes.
❄Nourish yourself: Always remember to fuel your mind and your body! Drink water, keep a stash of your favorite snacks with you; fuel your mind with books you enjoy; fuel your soul with the company of peers and family.

While the common saying is that knowledge is power, it can also be overwhelming. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the amount of information you are taking in (whether from social media or news outlets) consider taking a digital break. Unplugging from social media isn’t avoidance—it’s care. Stepping away can quiet comparison, ease overwhelm, and create space for your mental health to breathe.

The ability to remain informed while also protecting your peace, can co-exist.

Happy New Year!
The time to practice gratitude for the lessons learned in the past year, and to assess ways to achieve new growth and experiences on the year ahead..

Vision boards can be an extremely helpful tool in creating goals for oneself. They can be minimalist, or extravagant. They can be covered in bucket-list items or professional milestones or personal dreams. Either way, the experience is personal to you as the designer.

Wishing you a year of growth, love, and excitement. Do not forget to capture the moments before they pass, wish upon the stars to your hearts content, and keep your eyes open for new opportunities.

Yule marks the longest night and the slow return of the light.
If your mental health feels heavy right now, know that rest is not failure—it’s part of healing. In the remaining days of the season, consider the following when caring for you emotional health

🕯Reflect — Journal about what this year taught you
❄ Release — Write down emotional burdens you’re ready to let go of
🕯Rest — Sleep, slow mornings, fewer obligations
❄ Renew — Set one gentle intention for emotional wellness
🕯Reconnect — Light a candle and sit with gratitude
