Let’s take a closer look at Parts 3 & 4 presented by Giovanna Giacobbe:

Giovanna Giacobbe, MSW, is a Senior Training and Consultation Specialist for Rutgers University in the Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation. Giovanna has had over 15 years of experience managing various research projects from the state of NJ, NIDILRR, NIH and NIMH that focused its research on severe mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, schizoaffective disorders, as well as substance abuse, trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), personality disorders, smoking cessation, college students with psychiatric disabilities, Supported Housing, Supported Employment and Supported Education.
Giovanna’s area of specialty is in trauma and PTSD.  She currently teaches a trauma graduate course at Rutgers University for students in the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Graduate Program. She is also a trauma consultant for the NJ State Psychiatric Hospitals.

Meet the presenter for “Empowering Through Education: Supporting Mental Health in Postsecondary Pathways,” Sharon Gbadamosi:

Sharon is a dedicated PhD Candidate leveraging over a decade of hands-on experience in higher education. With a background that spans both academic and student support services, Sharon has held key roles as a Disability Specialist, Wellness Counselor, and Academic Advisor. This unique blend of expertise is further complemented by experience as an Adjunct Professor. Deeply passionate about the transformative power of both education and counseling, Sharon is committed to fostering inclusive, supportive, and academically enriching environments for all students.

Overview:
This session looks at how mental health can affect a student’s ability to succeed in school. We’ll talk about common challenges, how they show up in the classroom, and what support can help. You’ll also learn how to work with schools and help students access the accommodations they need.

Objectives:
• How mental health conditions (like anxiety, depression, etc.) impact learning
• Common barriers students face in college or training programs
• How to work with colleges and training programs to support students
• What accommodations are available and how students can access them
