When I let the things of this world overwhelm me, I start to weigh myself down with my own worries, what-ifs, and the ultimate battle for control.
When I am heavy with overwhelm, itโs hard for me to be present and purposeful in my day. I lose my focus and my gaze falls off of Jesus and onto this world.
Feelings of overwhelm can really derail us and soak up all of our focus, joy, and peace.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 reminds us that when we keep our eyes on the Lord and put our trust and confidence in Him, we do not have to be concerned or overwhelmed. His Word promises us when our trust is in Him, we will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. God could have skipped the word planted but I believe He added that in there because when we trust in Him, we are planted, firm, and steadfast.
With Jesus as our firm foundation, we donโt have to worry when heat comes and the drought threatens to steal our bounty of goodness, we will not be shaken!
"But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." Jeremiah 17:7-8
