The mission of the Occupational Therapy Department at Missouri State University is to educate holistic, reflective occupational therapy practitioners who understand the complexity of occupation and value its role in the promotion of health and wellness. Didactic and experiential learning will promote occupation-based practice, ethical leadership, community engagement, cultural humility, scientific inquiry, and life-long learning to develop generalist practitioners who are prepared to meet the needs of persons, groups, and populations across a variety of settings, including those in rural and underserved communities.

✨Fieldwork Friday✨

Throughout this semester, first-year students will be working in groups for their first fieldwork experience! These groups will be focusing on wellness activities specific to the populations they are working with.

✨Fieldwork Friday✨

Throughout this semester, first-year students will be working in groups for their first fieldwork experience! These groups will be focusing on wellness activities specific to the populations they are working with.

Check out the groups we have at SeniorAge Area Agency on Aging in Fair Grove and Springfield. We are so grateful to these organizations and participants for continuing to partner with us for psychosocial fieldwork experiences!

Our second-year students have had a week full of field trips!

👉 On Monday, they went to Alliance Rehab and Medical Equipment to learn more about complex rehab technology.

👉 Yesterday, they joined Missouri Occupational Therapy Association OT students and practitioners at the state capitol to speak with legislators and learn more about advocacy.

We are so grateful for the community partners, legislators and the statewide OT family!

Prompted by some recent availability issues, the simulation center reached out to Dr. Corro to see if we might be able to 3D print suture hubs for nurse anesthesia students. Check out Anna with the finished product! Anna has demonstrated a high level of interest and skill in the 3D printing lab, so Dr. Corro knew she was the perfect person to spearhead this project.

We are so happy we could help the simulation center and ANE students!

Today, faculty, staff and students were invited to bring a dish or drink specific to their culture and share a meal together. Filipino, Indian, Italian, Amish, Russian, Ukrainian, American and Southern Colorado Mexican were all represented. Following the meal, we did some cultural trivia!

Big thanks to SOTA Social Chair, Derek, for organizing this event!

Faculty and staff used a highland cow origami task to evaluate their own learning styles! After we finished, we discussed how assignments might be created to suit a variety of learning styles.
