The SIU Center for Family Medicine is designated as a federally qualified health center (FQHC) and a patient centered medical home (PCMH). As an FQHC, also referred to as a community health center, we have a governing board composed of patients and community members to help us serve the needs of the people of Springfield, Sangamon County and surrounding counties. In addition, the FQHC status enables us to offer special programs for low income and uninsured patients. It is the goal of our Center to provide the best possible care to our patients and to make them feel that the Center is their personal MEDICAL HOME. At our patient-centered medical home, our clinicians will:
- Provide integrated, accessible health care services
- Be accountable for addressing a large majority of your health care needs
- Develop sustained partnerships with patients
- Practice within the context of the family and community

1 in 3 teens in the United States will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse by someone they are in a relationship with before they become adults.

Talk About It is a call to action for young people and those who support them to engage in meaningful conversations about healthy relationships and navigate behaviors that may be unhealthy or even abusive.

Flu activity is high in Illinois right now - and if you get sick, there are treatment options. đź’Š

Flu antivirals are prescription medicines that fight the flu virus. When started early (ideally within 48 hours of symptoms), they can:
✔️ Lessen how bad symptoms feel
✔️ Help you recover faster
✔️ Reduce the risk of serious complications

Flu symptoms can be more serious for older adults, young children, pregnant people, and those with certain health conditions. If that's you - or if symptoms feel severe - contact a healthcare provider as soon as possible.

đźš« Important reminder: Antibiotics do not treat the flu - they only work on bacterial infections.

💉 And while antivirals help treat flu, they’re not a substitute for the flu vaccine. Vaccination is still the best way to prevent flu and serious illness.

If you or your child start feeling flu symptoms, don’t wait - reach out to a healthcare provider to see if treatment is right for you.
