Remember to stay safe this winter season! Here are three top tips for cold-weather safety from the Memorial Health Emergency Management and Safety team:

- When surfaces are icy, wear shoes with good traction.
- Keep your hands out of your pockets when walking on a slick sidewalk or roadway. Having them at your sides helps you keep your balance.
- Walk like a penguin to reduce the risk of falls: take small steps with your toes pointed outward and your feet flat.

Many people in our area are sick with respiratory illnesses and flu, and that means the wait times at our hospitals' emergency rooms have increased. We know this can be frustrating and we want to help you get the care you need as quickly as possible.

If you have milder symptoms the following options are usually faster than an ER visit:
- Visit a Memorial Care urgent care clinic.
- Schedule a virtual care appointment via the My Memorial app.
- Call your doctor’s office to schedule an appointment with your physician or an advanced practice provider.

Remember to wash your hands, cover coughs and stay home when you’re not feeling well. We can all help fight the spread of illness!

Starting today, Memorial Health has implemented temporary visitor restrictions on inpatient units at its five hospitals to help slow an increase in respiratory illness. Visitors must be 18 or older and show no signs of illness. Only two visitors are allowed per patient at one time. Read more:
