✨ Black History Month Spotlight ✨
All month long, we’re highlighting and celebrating the incredible individuals who make a difference across our Food & Nutrition Services department — sharing their stories, leadership, and impact. Today we’re proud to spotlight Tracie Thomas.
Tracie Thomas
Operations Specialist
Food & Nutrition Services – Central Office, Chantilly Area 1
9 years with FCPS
For Tracie, Black history is deeply personal — it lives in her family, her work, and the traditions she continues to honor.
Her mother was born in 1943 in Little Rock, Arkansas, when opportunities — especially education — weren’t guaranteed for people of color. From picking cotton as a child to later retiring as a Director of Fiscal Services in a prestigious California school district, her mother’s journey is one of resilience, strength, and breaking barriers.
That legacy shaped Tracie’s belief that today’s opportunities were hard-won — and come with responsibility.
For over 30 years, she has honored her heritage by wearing traditional African garments throughout Black History Month — a visible celebration of culture, pride, and Black excellence. ❤️🖤💚
At work, Tracie is passionate about teaching students where their food comes from and helping them build healthy habits for life. She believes food is powerful — fueling bodies, minds, and futures. Inspiring students to make nutritious choices and mentoring young leaders isn’t just her job… it’s what feeds her soul.
💬 Her message to students:
“You are your community. Support one another because we are stronger together. Lead with purpose, take care of yourself, and never forget where you come from.”
Black history isn’t just something we remember — it’s something we live, celebrate, and pass on every day.
