Today the Supreme Court hears arguments in Miot v. Trump, a case that will determine whether 350,000 Haitian men, women, and children living legally in this country will be allowed to stay.
Amanda and I are blessed to call many Haitian people our dear friends. I want you to know who these people are, because they deserve to be truly seen.
They are some of the hardest working, most generous, most loving human beings I have ever known. They bring richness to Springfield through their culture, their faith, their music, their food, their laughter, their way of loving people fiercely and openly. We are better because of them.
Most people do not know this. These friends have paid significant money to maintain their temp legal status year after year. They have had to renew their driver’s licenses 30 days at a time lately. Thirty days. As if their humanity has an expiration date.
They have paid into Social Security faithfully, just like you and I, and will never collect a single dollar. They are not taking from this country. They have given and given and asked only for the safety and dignity promised to them under the law.
Haiti holds a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory from our own State Department. And yet today, arguments are being made that these precious souls should go back to gang violence rule and kidnappings.
I am sending every justice a wave of Reiki and a sincere prayer for compassion and clarity.
A Prayer to our Source of all that is ,
wrap every Haitian family in your peace. Calm their fear. Remind them they are seen, loved, and not alone. Guide the hearts of the justices today. May their decision be rooted in truth and the sacred dignity of every human life. We hold Haiti and Springfield close, as we are made richer and more whole by the Haitian community woven into Springfield’s heart.
May they know we hold them close to our hearts.
And so it is🙏
To our Haitian friends, Amanda and I love you. We are praying with you today.
Love, Mandy
