Thirty years ago, scientists gathered in Bermuda to establish what became known as the Bermuda Principles—a groundbreaking agreement that human genome sequence data should be released rapidly and shared freely with the global scientific community. Those principles helped shape the culture of open science and collaboration that accelerated the Human Genome Project and continues to influence genomics today.

Last week, I had the incredible honor of representing Dynamic DNA Laboratories at the Bermuda Principles 30 Conference, held at the same hotel, on the same dates, exactly thirty years after the original 1996 meeting. Leaders from across genomics, medicine, ethics, and technology came together to reflect on how far the field has come—and to help reimagine these principles for a world of advanced sequencing, AI-driven biology, and global data sharing.

Being invited to participate in this conversation was deeply meaningful. It was a privilege to contribute to the dialogue about how genomic science can continue to evolve responsibly, equitably, and collaboratively for the decades ahead.
