Giving back is at the heart of who we are at CoxHealth.

One of the most meaningful ways our colleagues live out that mission is through blood donation.

Each year, CoxHealth partners with Community Blood Center of the Ozarks to host blood drives across our campuses. In 2025, our Springfield locations donated more than 700 units of blood, earning recognition for the most blood donations in the health care category.

This achievement is possible thanks to our dedicated blood drive champions, including Hanna dela Cuesta.

As both a nurse and blood drive chair, Hanna leads a passionate team of seven champions who promote each drive through internal communications and word of mouth, inspiring employees and visitors alike to roll up their sleeves.

For Hanna, the reason behind donating blood is deeply personal.

“The first time I donated blood was for one of my patients. The impact really stuck with me,” Hanna says. “Some patients may not have friends or family able to donate on their behalf, but our community can step in to help.”

Across our Springfield campuses, CoxHealth contributes more than 1,000 blood donations annually — the most in any category in our region. These life‑saving donations stay right here in our local communities, helping us continue to provide exceptional care for our patients and their families.

Last week, CBCO invited Community Partners to our annual Thankquet event at the Morris Conservation Center to celebrate their lifesaving contributions. We recognized businesses, schools, churches, communities and other organizations for their amazing work of hosting mobile blood drives. Aspire Awards were presented to partners in our communities who help further the CBCO mission and Cindy Sachs, with Salem Community, received the 2026 Mary Carroll Lifetime Achievement Award. During Wednesday's blood drive, a couple of familiar faces stopped by the Bloodmobile: Bonnie Bolinger, who retired Monday after 24 years of working for the City of Fayetteville in both HR and the Mayor's Office, and her husband, Randy, who worked in Water and Sewer for 41 years.

For years, Bonnie coordinated the blood drives for the City with the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, which provides blood and plasma to all Northwest Arkansas area hospitals.

Thank you both for a combined 65 years of service in the community, and for continuing to support our blood drives that have saved so many lives!

National Blood Donor Month is a time to honor the commitment of repeat donors—the dedicated individuals who return again and again to help save lives. Their consistency keeps the blood supply steady through seasonal shortages, emergencies, and everyday medical needs. Repeat donors are the backbone of community health, proving that small acts done regularly can make an extraordinary impact. This January, we celebrate their generosity and encourage others to follow their example: give often, give safely, and keep hope flowing.

We had an amazing blood drive this January, receiving a total of 25 units of blood, and two new donors!!

Out of these totals, we received 3 O- units and 12 O+ units. Those types of blood have been difficult to keep on the shelf because they are the most used.

Laura Dobson was our big drawing winner at our Allen's Foods blood drive back in December! Her blood donation not only goes to supporting local patients at local hospitals, but it also got her a $250 Allen's Food gift card!
