Alcohol use is often about more than the drink itself. For many people, it becomes a way to cope with stress, anxiety, or past experiences that are difficult to process.

🧠 This is why alcohol use and mental health are so closely connected. It’s not simply a matter of willpower—it’s about understanding what’s underneath and finding healthier ways to manage it.

At HCRS, we take a whole-person approach, offering support that looks beyond the surface and focuses on what people are really experiencing. Visit our website at hcrs.org 💚

Earlier this month, HCRS was honored to be named one of the 2026 Best Places to Work in Vermont by VermontBiz and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce! 🏆

This marks our 6th year in a row receiving this recognition—a reflection of the culture behind the work and the people who make it possible.

While the award highlights our workplace, it’s ultimately about what that means for the communities we serve. A strong, supported team leads to stronger, more consistent care, and a better experience for the people who rely on us every day. 💚

For many people, alcohol is part of everyday life—after work, on weekends, and at social gatherings. It’s familiar and widely accepted, which can make it harder to recognize when something has shifted. 🔄

What starts as occasional or social drinking can gradually become something more difficult to manage. That change isn’t always obvious, and it doesn’t look the same for everyone.

💚 If alcohol has started to feel different for you, you’re not alone. Support is available when you’re ready to take that step! https://hcrs.org/adult-services/substance-use-addictions/

We’re excited to officially welcome Jed Kingman as our new Director of Information Technology. 🎉

Since stepping into the role, Jed has taken a thoughtful, hands-on approach—connecting with teams across the organization and strengthening the systems that support our work. His focus is simple but powerful: technology that’s reliable, intuitive, and built for providing care.

This kind of leadership matters. When systems work the way they should, it creates more space for what matters most - people. 💚

Some moments call for clarity, calm, and real leadership—and Cora showed up with all three. 🌳

Cora Swanberg, Community Support Specialist, recently led a high-risk response involving a Veteran in crisis. Through strong clinical judgment, coordination with mobile crisis and law enforcement, and steady communication with the VA, she helped ensure the person got immediate care and support.

In a letter from the White River Junction VA, Cora was described as calm, astute, and decisive, with her actions credited as life-saving.

We are deeply grateful for Cora’s skill, dedication, and heart. She represents the very best of our mission in action, meeting people in their most vulnerable moments with expertise, compassion, and courage. 💚

We’re thrilled to welcome Anne Bilodeau as our incoming Chief Executive Officer! 🌳

She will succeed longtime CEO George Karabakakis, who is retiring June 30, 2026, after more than 30 years at HCRS. His impact on this organization and the communities we serve is lasting, and we’re grateful for his continued support during this transition. 💚

Over the past 6 years, Anne has been a trusted leader — helping guide our organization through growth, strengthening how we support our staff, and expanding access to care across our communities. Most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer, she has played a key role in shaping where we are today.

🌟 We’re incredibly proud to see her step into this role and excited for what’s ahead. Congratulations again, Anne!

🎨 Tomorrow evening, the walls at 118 Elliot Gallery will hold more than artwork, they’ll hold stories that took courage to share.

Our artists, HCRS clients and staff, have spent weeks (or months!) creating pieces that reflect growth, resilience, humor, grief, and hope. Opening night is when they get to see people pause in front of their work and try to understand. That moment matters! 💚

If you’ve been considering coming, this is your invitation!
📅 April 3 | 5–8 PM | 118 Elliot Gallery, Brattleboro
🍪 Free entry, live music, good food, everyone welcome - we hope you’ll be part of it!
