Stress is a normal part of our lives and very helpful tool to keep our brains sharp. Low levels of stress has been found to keep the pathways of our right hemisphere and left hemisphere of our brain working more effectively, which effects our whole being. This is when we work most effectively. Too much stress can actually decrease our brain’s ability to communicate and can get stuck leaving us feeling overwhelmed and ineffective. This can affect all aspects of our lives from our relationships to our mental and physical well-being. It’s important to know our personal threshold and what to do if we begin the escalate.

Here are some beginning steps to get back in your optimal threshold and feeling more yourself.

1. Start with noticing your symptoms... are you anxious, irritable, trouble sleeping, fatigue, muscle tension, twitching, trouble concentrating, headaches, stomach issues, impulsive decisions, withdrawing away, loss of interest, racing negative thoughts, etc?

2. Try to take inventory by making a list of what may be triggering this increased threshold.

3. Begin to practice a consistent mindfulness practice to stay aware and present to your present moment. Especially your breath. Deep inhale and slow exhale.

4. Talk to a trusted helpful person to get a clear and a new perspective.

5. Use assertive boundaries that include communication to how you feel and may need to be balanced. Ex. Eating well, exercise, consistent work schedule, clear roles, time away from screens, communicating your intention to others.

Invest in you! You are with it!!!!

Hi all!!! Just wanted to share a thought on civil mindfulness and emotional regulation skills.

Often I notice in our day happenings we miss incredible opportunities to make connections and just feel better. This exercise can change our view of the day and possibly someone else’s. It is as simple as just smiling to others or even towards ourselves. I recently learned that one of the first meditations Buddha ever thought was the “Smiling meditation”. It’s simple for a few minutes several times a day just smile! 😊 it’s amazing! At first it feels fake and then becomes more natural. I have tried it with clients and they too have found it energy changing for self and others around them. Give it a try! Smile😀

Animals are wonderful companions and friends in our lives but they can also bring healing. Animals have the ability to be guides to our healing. They can help us see our strengths and keep us connected to our present awareness, true mindfulness. Animals also can help us begin to take control of our noise minds or bodily stress responses that are easily triggered. I had the wonderful privilege to share one of my passions with like minds on this amazing healing strategy. Check out the article in the Bethlehem times on Aug. 1. Thanks to all who helped make this possible. http://bethlehem.thelehighvalleypress.com/2017/08/01/‘animal-assisted-strategies’-going-dogs-help
