Reflexology with Robin

Reflexology with Robin Reflexology is both an Art and Science. Deep Relaxation is the one of the greatest benefits.

Similar to the benefits of Yoga it works with subtle energy flows, revitalizing the body for the natural healing process to unfold.

Biologically, reflexology enables the regeneration of all bodily tissues, helping to ward off all manner of sickness. Within deep rest, the parasympathetic nervous system is activated to facilitate metabolic function: glandular rhythms reset, internal barometers governing blood pressure regulate, the heart rate slows and intestinal activity increases.

This is why often times during a session, the client will experience the sounds of rumbling inside the body, and the drifting in and out of sleep!

Not all pain is triggered by external stimulus. Psychogenic pain is caused, increased, or prolonged by mental, emotional, or behavioral factors. Headache is sometimes diagnosed as psychogenic. The pain is as actual and hurtful as pain from any other source.

Likewise, long term pain can cause psychological upset, with elevated scores on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory scales of hysteria, depression and hypochondria. When therapeutic intervention relieves the pain, the scores and anxiety drop, often to normal levels. Self-esteem, often low in chronic pain patients, also improves.

While targeting reflexes, reflexology is also a relaxation technique that can help negate the effects of stress and tension often associated with headaches and migraines. Regardless of what reflexes are being worked, reflexology helps:
• Relieve stress and tension
• Decrease heart rate and diastolic blood pressure
• Relax muscles
• Reduce pain
• Increase sense of well being
• Improve quality of sleep

When stress is alleviated, the body is more capable of defending against illness and repairing damage caused by injury. Improvement may then be seen elsewhere in the body as a result. Since the American Medical Association estimates that 75% of all disease is triggered by stress, the implications are broad for using reflexology for stress reduction.

Reflexology has been known to open neural pathways. which allows for free-flowing neural activity and literally flood our system with relaxation. This induced state of calmness in body and mind can also minimize sleep disorders. Insomnia can be a very troubling condition to suffer through, but reflexology helps your body relax and get back to its normal, healthy circadian rhythms. - Lynne Murfin MD

Reflexology is considered a therapy, not a massage. Reflexology is a holistic “medicine,” viewing the person as a physical, psychological, and emotional being, where all aspects are interconnected. It treats the whole person, as opposed to conventional western medicine which tends to view the body as a group of components to be targeted individually when a health problem arises.

Holistic medicine also assumes that the body will naturally try to heal itself. The body will try to rid itself of disease, expel toxins, and reduce inflammation. It will heal cuts and mend broken bones. And it will balance itself, carefully orchestrating its different systems. As noted in Simply Reflexology:

Our bodies constantly try to achieve homeostasis (a Greek word for “balance’) …. Our bodies regularly produce hormones and chemicals that speed up or slow down physical processes. When we get cold, our bodies shiver to keep us warm; when we get hot, our sweat cools us down.…

Reflexology stimulates the reflexes to help the body maintain this balance and heal itself.

And the greatest benefit of all, is that it produces a deep sense of relaxation and rest. You deserve some time for you!

Self Care

It is necessary to take time to nourish the body, mind and soul. Through the lens of this Ancient Practice, each foot and hand have multiple joints and are innervated by thousands of nerves. By using specific reflexology techniques, one directly affects the nervous system in a very positive way. When the body is relaxed and the nervous system is stimulated, healing has a perfect opportunity to take place. Healing comes from the inside out.
