Okay but can we appreciate what baseball season does for the soul? ⚾❤️

One of our favorite things about living in St. Louis is the energy that comes every spring when Busch Stadium opens yet again.

There's something special about having a team to root for. A reason to gather. A little hope on the horizon.

From our little corner of St. Louis, we're wishing the Cardinals a fantastic season. 🏟️

Are you making it out to Busch this year? Tell us below! 👇

This is a Safe and Sound Protocol session....

What you see: Someone listening to the playlist while coloring.

What you don't see: A nervous system that is being rewired to a felt sense of safety.

All from the comfort of your own home.

Thank you Jennie for presenting on self care for clinicians, it's such an important topic to discuss to prevent burnout in our mental health field.

WE MADE IT!!!

Spring is here! 🌷

Longer days. Softer light. A reminder that growth doesn’t rush — it unfolds.

If this season feels like a fresh start, we’re here for it.

If it feels messy, muddy, or slow… that’s part of it too.

Healing has seasons. So do you.

Here’s to new beginnings, steady progress, and letting yourself bloom at your own pace. 🌿

National Awkward Moments Day is here! 🎉 That moment when you say “You too!” after someone says “Enjoy your meal”… yeah, we’ve all been there.

Awkward moments aren’t failures—they’re proof you’re human. Laugh, shrug, and move on. Bonus: sharing them is a great way to connect!😅

Here's to resilience, social grace, and being delightfully, imperfectly human!

Summer is coming soon! Are your tweens and young teens staying home alone?

Would your child know what to do if something went wrong while they were home alone?

Not just “be okay.” But actually know what to do
• If they heard a strange noise
• If they got hurt
• If they felt scared or panicked
• If boredom turned into a not-so-great decision

Most kids say, “I’ll be fine.” But when emotions spike, thinking clearly gets harder.

Here’s what we see as therapists: Kids aren’t struggling because they’re careless.
They’re struggling because no one has taught them the skills yet.

Staying home alone requires more than maturity.
It requires:

• Calm body + clear thinking under stress
• Decision-making without immediate adult support
• Knowing when to handle something vs. when to get help
• Managing fear, boredom, and “what if” thoughts

That’s why we created:

Safe, Smart & Ready: A Home-Alone Skills Group

A 6-week group designed to help kids, tweens, and young teens:

• Stay calm when something unexpected happens
• Make safe, thoughtful choices
• Follow a clear safety plan
• Build independence with confidence, not pressure

Who this is for:

• Ages 11–14
• Kids starting to stay home alone
• Kids who feel nervous, unsure, bored, or overly confident
• Families who want a clear plan instead of guessing

Especially helpful for anxious or neurodivergent youth.

What makes this different:
• Not fear-based and not just rules
• Practice with real-life scenarios, and role playing activities at home
• Skills that transfer directly to home

Details:
• 6-week small group (April 15th, 21st, 28th, May 5th, 12th, 19th)
• $50/week
• Led by child & adolescent mental health professionals

If you’ve been asking yourself, “Is my child actually ready for this?” This gives you a clear way to know.

Spots are limited.

They say there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow…

In therapy, the “gold” often looks like:
✔ Setting boundaries
✔ Feeling your feelings
✔ Breaking old patterns
✔ Actually resting (yes, really)

Not as flashy — but way more valuable. 😉

Wishing you a St. Patrick’s Day filled with self-compassion, courage, and a little self-made luck.

Did you know that March 16 is National Panda Day??

Neither did we! But we're here for it!

Just like pandas, we all have moments where we need a little extra support, some quiet time, and maybe a bamboo break. 🐾

In therapy, it’s okay to slow down, protect your energy, and practice self-care—just like a panda resting in its bamboo grove. 🌱

💛 Tip for today: Give yourself permission to pause, breathe, and recharge. You deserve it.

Our Story

The office of Step By Step Counseling was founded in 2009 by Jennie Wilson and over the years has slowly expanded. As the need for mental health services in the community continued to grow, the office moved and expanded into the current location in 2013. Our current space allows us to accommodate more therapists and offer more services. Jennie envisioned that the therapists would operate not just as a and multidisiplinary team but as an indiciplinary team. She wanted this model when delivering services to clients because interdisiplinary teams build on each other’s expertise and allow for consultation. There’s an opportunity for more than one clinician to work with a family when needed (one client might be utilizing different services with different clinicians).

Step by Step Counseling’s vision was (and still is) to create a counseling resource that serves the community by offering different specialties and services to a wide range of clientele. As you will notice, therapists or clinicians employed with Step By Step Counseling have their own specialties and populations that they serve. Our mission is to connect a client with a clinician in our community that will be a good fit for what they are struggling with. Many times we are able to provide mulitiple services within one family.

We hope that every client has a positive experience within the practice. How can we serve you?
