Brain scans reveal that expressing gratitude activates regions like the prefrontal cortex and anterior cingulate, areas responsible for decision-making, learning, and emotional regulation. These regions then release dopamine and serotonin, the brain’s “feel-good” chemicals, creating a feedback loop that reinforces happiness. The more you practice, the stronger the rewiring becomes, turning gratitude into a natural mood stabilizer.

Researchers have also found that gratitude reduces activity in the amygdala, the brain’s fear center, lowering stress responses and promoting calm. It can even improve sleep, enhance relationships, and boost immune function.

This is why the work we do is so impactful. When we can tap into the body and help the nervous system begin to let go of past traumas, new neural networks begin to form.

Your Body Remembers What Your Childhood Nervous System Felt

Researchers revealed a fascinating connection between our childhood experiences and our adult bodies. A new study shows that the patterns and signals formed by the nervous system in early life leave lasting imprints that continue to influence the way our bodies function decades later. These neural “memories” are not just in the brain—they are embedded in muscles, organs, and even immune responses, silently carrying the story of our earliest experiences.

The implications are profound. Childhood stress, trauma, or even nurturing environments can shape how we respond to stress, regulate emotions, and maintain physical health as adults. For instance, early exposure to chronic stress may affect heart rate, digestion, and immune resilience long after the triggering events have passed. Conversely, positive childhood experiences can strengthen neural pathways that support emotional stability, learning, and overall wellbeing.

This research challenges the long-held assumption that our adult bodies are entirely separate from our early experiences. Instead, it highlights a deeply interconnected system where mind and body continuously communicate, reminding us that healing and personal growth may involve more than just addressing the present, it may require understanding and nurturing the echoes of our past.

By recognising that our bodies carry the story of our childhood nervous system, we gain new tools for health, self-awareness, and emotional resilience. Every ache, tension, or reaction may hold a clue about the life we lived and the ways we can shape a healthier future.

Sugar is the problem not cholesterol. Cholesterol does its job and repairs a damaged artery. When there’s too much sugar in the bloodstream, that’s what sticks to the cholesterol and glycolates, which then causes plaque. Sugar is the culprit of many health concerns. Guess which organ NEEDS a lot of cholesterol? - the BRAIN

A 15-year study in JAMA Internal Medicine has found that added sugar may be a bigger threat to your heart than cholesterol—more than doubling the risk of dying from heart disease, even if you’re not overweight.

People who got 25% or more of their daily calories from added sugar were over twice as likely to die from heart disease as those consuming less than 10%. The danger increased with higher sugar intake, regardless of age, weight, activity level, or cholesterol numbers.

Top sources include sugary drinks (over a third of added sugar in U.S. diets), desserts, candy, sweetened cereals, and fruit drinks. Excess sugar may raise blood pressure and cause the liver to release harmful fats into the blood—both key heart disease risks.

The American Heart Association advises a daily limit of 6 teaspoons (100 calories) for women and 9 teaspoons (150 calories) for men. A single can of soda can exceed these limits. Experts recommend swapping soda for fruit-infused seltzer and opting for fruit-based or unsweetened desserts to protect your heart.
