Our April Employee Spotlight is Tia Smith! Tia has worked for UCP Heartland for 2 years as a Lead RBT in our St. Louis Autism Clinic. In this role, she supports the clinic's daily operations and provides direct ABA therapy to young clients. She enjoys creating meaningful events that bring the community and families together.

Tia is especially proud of planning the “Cookies with Santa” event last December, where she organized sensory-friendly activities like slime-making, cookie decorating, and taking pictures with a sensory-friendly Santa. Tia shared, “It was incredibly rewarding to see our clients and their families come together in such a joyful, inclusive environment and truly enjoy the holiday season.”

Working in this field is very impactful. Tia shared, “One of the most impactful parts of my work has been witnessing my clients’ vocal progress over time. Seeing a child gain the ability to communicate their wants and needs, sometimes for the very first time, is something that stays with you. Those moments are powerful reminders of why this work matters and continue to motivate me every day.”

She feels others should work for UCP Heartland because of the prioritization of both staff and clients, as well as the support, collaboration, growth opportunities, and shared purpose across the organization.

Thank you, Tia!
