This has been a tough couple of months for many parents and we want to take this moment to let you know you are not alone. With all the snow days and Mondays off many families we see have been having a tough time getting back into the swing of things.

When structure and routines are disrupted kids can have a hard time too! This can look like regressions in recent progress, needing help with things they were recently able to do independently. We want to remind you, this is normal and most likely temporary. The skills they had are not gone or lost! They are just harder to access due to the current circumstances (schedule changes, disrupted routines etc).

How do I talk to my child about divorce?

The good news is this: you don’t need to have all the right words. What matters most is being open, honest, and present. One of the best ways to support conversations about divorce with kids is through books and play. Stories give children the words they may not yet have. Play and play therapy give them a safe way to express what’s inside.

Talking with children about race, identity, history, and injustice can feel overwhelming. Children may ask questions that are hard for you to answer, or notice differences before adults feel ready to explain them. One powerful way to support these conversations is through books.

For many children, seeing characters who look like them or share similar experiences can be deeply affirming.

For Black children especially, positive and accurate representation supports self-esteem, emotional regulation, and resilience. For non-Black children, these stories build empathy and appreciation for diversity — skills that matter for lifelong relationships.
