Being located in has lots of perks, best among them, the art! 🖼️✨
Charles Edward Williams’ self portrait, “Swim II”, is from a series entitled “Self”. The series explores the artist’s emotional relationship with water, revealing a deep dive into the trauma regarding his thalassophobia, or fear of the ocean, as a drowning survivor. Due to the subject matter, the sheer white background appears to represent harsh sunlight with areas of the image obliterated. These ephemeral qualities are countered by the strength of the artist’s features and form, as he raises his brightly colored water wings and adjusts his goggles perhaps preparing to enter the water.
