At 85, Corky didn’t just watch—he flew.

During an outing to iFLY, what started as a simple demonstration turned into a bucket-list moment. With support from his care team, family, and physician, Corky safely took on indoor skydiving—something he’d always wanted to try.

Afterward, he summed it up best: “I’ve always lived by the philosophy that I can try anything once—so this was my one skydiving try.”

A powerful reminder that with the right support, meaningful moments don’t have an age limit.

This OT Month, we’re proud to highlight Kailee Wundermor, OTR, whose creativity and passion make a meaningful impact every day at Addington Place of Lakeside Vista.

Kailee is known for bringing fresh ideas into the clinic, always finding new and engaging ways to support her patients while uplifting her teammates along the way. Her innovative approach recently shined as she brought the spirit of the Olympics into therapy—creating fun, purposeful activities that had residents smiling, moving, and fully engaged.

One resident, Jeanie, especially lit up during these sessions—and as Kailee says, “When Jeanie smiles, we all smile.”

Merna recently celebrated an incredible milestone — her 99th birthday. 🎉

After experiencing a fall, she wanted physical therapy to help her feel safer and more confident moving around her community.

With support from Kaelyn Hoambrecker, PTA, and our GUIDE program, Merna received consistent encouragement, progress monitoring, and care coordination — including support navigating her care when her primary physician retired.

Today, Merna is walking independently to activities again — and she has not experienced another fall.

Her story is a beautiful reminder that with the right support, independence and confidence can continue to grow at any age.

When Jackie first began therapy, significant pain in her right shoulder and left hip made everyday movement difficult. Activities that once felt routine became challenging. Her confidence in mobility had declined, and she was functioning below her prior level.

Through a personalized care plan supported by physical therapy, occupational therapy, and EmpowerMe 360, Jackie received a comprehensive approach focused on pain management, strengthening, balance, and functional movement. Care coordination across the team helped ensure she had the support she needed every step of the way.

Today, Jackie’s progress tells an inspiring story. Her pain has resolved, she has transitioned from a walker to a cane, and she’s moving with greater safety and confidence. Most importantly, she’s back to participating in community activities she enjoys.

Moments like these highlight the power of coordinated care and personalized therapy.

At Aviva River Bend Assisted Living and Memory Care, teamwork and dedication helped Madelyn reclaim her independence.

After frequent falls led to a week-long hospitalization, Madelyn returned to her assisted living community significantly deconditioned. Even walking short distances had become difficult, and daily falls were a major concern.

Working together, her family, community staff, and the EmpowerMe therapy team—including Melissa Shilts, COTA and Andy Cook, PTA—focused on addressing the root causes of her setbacks. By adjusting medication timing and providing consistent therapy and encouragement, Madelyn began to regain her strength, balance, and confidence.

In just six weeks, the change has been remarkable. Madelyn progressed from needing wheelchair transport to being independent most days. Today, she’s an active participant in exercise classes and regularly visits the gym.

Her journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when collaboration, consistency, and determination come together to support resident wellness.
