In February, IHN’s RE-LINK team and Community-Based Community Referral Coordinators joined a Mini Resource Fair hosted by Missouri Probation & Parole and SLMPD. The event brought together 50 participants from the Police Partnership Program, connecting individuals on probation with employers and supportive organizations.

Beyond job opportunities, participants accessed resources like health services, education, skill building, and case management—support that plays a key role in long-term success. Events like this reflect what’s possible when partners come together with a shared commitment to supporting people as they move forward.

IHN is proud to continue showing up in spaces that help individuals build connections and navigate their reentry journey with the support they deserve.

April is National Second Chance Month—a time to recognize the importance of supporting individuals returning to our communities after incarceration.

Founded by Prison Fellowship in 2017 (https://bit.ly/3RHzyLM), Second Chance Month highlights the need to expand opportunities, shift perceptions, and strengthen policies that help people successfully rebuild their lives.

The National Reentry Resource Center uses this month to:
• Highlight barriers to housing, employment, and health care after incarceration
• Recognize progress made through the Second Chance Act
• Lift up community-based programs creating meaningful pathways forward

We were glad to welcome students from WashU’s Center for Career Engagement for a Public Health in St. Louis tour!

On April 10, IHN hosted 20 undergraduate and graduate students to explore the region’s healthcare system and learn about career pathways. Dr. Jesse Davis, Ryan Barker, and Bill Winfrey shared their journeys and offered insight into IHN’s work across the St. Louis region.

The visit continued with stops at BJC and the Missouri Foundation for Health, giving students a broader look at the many directions a career in health and public health can take.

We appreciate the opportunity to connect with the next generation of leaders and share what drives our work.

Black Maternal Health Week (April 11–17) is a time to center the voices, experiences, and leadership of Black mothers and birthing people.

We were glad to help kick off the week at the Centering Joy in the Black Birthing Experience Conference.
Now in its third year, this gathering continues to create space for connection, reflection, and learning—grounded in the belief that joy is an essential part of the birthing experience, not an afterthought.

Led by our partners at The Doula Lab and supported by local organizations, including IHN as a founding sponsor, the conference has grown from its roots in the St. Louis region to now also bringing people together across the river in Illinois.

For us, this week is about showing up in support of community-led work, listening, and continuing to strengthen the partnerships that help families thrive.
