Facing a dental emergency? Knowing what to expect can ease your stress. 🦷

Urgent dental visits are designed to address issues like severe pain, broken teeth, or accidents outside regular hours.

Upon arrival, you'll check in and may complete new patient forms if it's your first visit. Treatment options vary based on the issue, ranging from fillings to extractions or root canals.

Remember, acting promptly can prevent further complications and alleviate discomfort. ⏰

While an urgent dental visit can look similar to a regular dental visit or cleaning, some differences exist.

Flossing is key to healthy teeth, but not all floss is equal. 🦷

Some popular brands contain chemicals like Teflon (PTFE), petroleum-based waxes, and artificial fragrances that can stay in the body for years.

These "forever chemicals" have been linked to health risks, including hormone disruption and liver issues.⚕️

The good news? Safer, eco-friendly options exist.

Floss made from biodegradable silk or plant-based materials, coated with natural waxes like candelilla or beeswax, keeps your smile clean without the toxins. 🌿

Some dental floss contains a chemical you don’t want anywhere near your body. Other options are bad for the planet. So, what’s the best safe dental floss?

What you eat and drink doesn't just fuel your body; it impacts your teeth, too. 🍎

Sugars and acids from constant snacking or sipping can quietly erode enamel. Simple swaps make a big difference, like sticking to mealtimes, sipping water or milk, and limiting acidic drinks. 🦷

Add in daily flossing and fluoride, and you've got a powerful defense team.

A healthy smile is about more than looks. It's a foundation for overall well-being. 💪

To reduce tooth decay, it is important to have sugary foods or drinks just at mealtimes, limiting the time your mouth is at risk.

Despite decades of proven safety and effectiveness, myths about water fluoridation continue to spread online. 🦷

Here's what the science actually shows regarding fluoridation:

✔️ No IQ reduction at recommended levels (0.7 mg/L)
✔️ Significant cavity prevention - Calgary saw increased cavities after stopping fluoridation
✔️ Naturally occurring mineral - one of Earth's most common

As Dr. Jayanth Kumar notes: "No study has shown that fluoride reduces IQ in fluoridated communities."

In fact, the CDC calls it one of the 10 greatest public health achievements of the 20th century.

Check out this article from the American Dental Association that untangles fact from fiction. 💡
