From a Whisper to a Roar: TEN’s Mission Spotlighted in New Film

St. Louis, MO – November 13, 2025 – The Empowerment Network, Inc. (TEN) is proud to announce its feature in the compelling short film From a Whisper to a Roar: Mellve’s Mission, part of the “Men Beating the Odds” series produced by SurvivorNet.

The piece shines a spotlight on TEN’s founder, Mellve A. Shahid, Sr., his journey as a prostate cancer survivor, and TEN’s vital work confronting prostate cancer in the African-American male community.

Turning a Whisper into a Roar
In his film segment, Mellve Shahid recounts how prostate cancer in the Black community was long treated as a whisper—a stigma-laden topic rarely discussed.

Following his own diagnosis in 2007 and survival journey, Shahid founded TEN in 2008 to fill a void in culturally sensitive support, education, and outreach.

Mellve Shahid joined forces with other African-American men to confront a disease that disproportionately affects their community.
