As November approaches quickly, we’re more blatantly reminded that not everyone will have consistent access to meals. Some of our 24/7 programs cover meals — but other programs don’t (outreach, drop-in, etc.) — and several of the individuals we serve will face real food insecurity this month.

If you’d like to help, every donation made in November will go directly toward food for those in need. Whether it’s a warm meal, pantry staples, or groceries, your support makes a direct impact.

💚 Give what you can. Share if you can’t.
Together, we can make sure no one goes hungry this month.

Provider Spotlight: Haven Recovery!

We had the pleasure of touring Haven Recovery with their CEO, Callan Montgomery and learning more about the impactful work Haven is doing right here in our community and were so impressed by the tremendous work they are doing.

Founded in 2017 by peers in recovery, Haven Recovery is a pioneer in supportive housing for individuals on the path to recovery.

A few things that stood out:
✅ Medical Respite House for individuals with both medical and housing needs
🏘️ 6 homes supporting a range of recovery journeys
🍱 Over 600 care bags with meals distributed monthly to those in need
📜 St. Louis’ first accredited recovery housing provider
🏥 Missouri’s first peer respite home (established 2020)
🛏️ Brought Recuperative Care to Missouri in 2022
🏡 Developed "next step" independent apartments for sustainable living
Their model is more than just housing, it’s about community, structure, and support. From live-in peer managers to weekly check-ins and peer coaching, Haven helps individuals build new routines in environments that foster growth, stability, and self-respect.

As they say at Haven, “All walks of recovery are welcome.” Whether someone is exploring sobriety, managing medical needs, or utilizing medication-assisted recovery, there is a safe place for them here.

If you're looking for a meaningful organization to support through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, I highly encourage you to learn more:

🌍 Today we celebrate Global Peer Support Day — a day that honors the power of lived experience, connection, and hope.

At Haven Recovery, our peer specialists are at the heart of everything we do. They walk alongside individuals navigating recovery, offering understanding that can only come from someone who’s been there. Their work reminds us every day that recovery isn’t a solo journey - it’s community and compassion.

In St. Louis, we're offering a THANK YOU celebration at Top Golf Midtown this evening! Food, golf, and great connections. All free but we'd love for you to RSVP. We have about 10 spots left! RSVP here: https://forms.gle/eeGresQsdwvx6GiM6

We wrapped up Recovery Month last week with National Recovery Gives Back day on September 30th. This national movement across the country supports volunteerism as a way to give back to our communities and showcase the power of recovery. Each year, Haven Recovery is proud to bring these efforts to St. Louis.

This year, we had volunteers from UnitedHealthcare, Home State Health Plan, Inc., Centene Corporation, Behavioral Health Network of Greater St. Louis, and St. Louis Community College join us to pack 500 meals, hygiene kits - including Narcan from UMSL-MIMH Addiction Science - and clean up neighborhood alleys thanks to Operation Brightside.

“A place to call Home” Haven: a safe place offering positive conditions during troubles or storms.

"I have seen the impact recovery homes have through the personal experience of a loved one. When I realized the lack of available options, I knew I had to offer recovery housing so more individuals could be impacted."

Relapse prevention has become our passion and mission. We believe supportive living communities facilitate this, especially in conjunction with outside treatment. All residents are accountable to each other and themselves. At Haven Recovery Homes, we have developed a structured setting that offers connection and support to residents as they build a foundation for a healthier, sober life. This balance of accountability and freedom allows for both self-empowerment and acceptance of support.

We believe (and research shows) connection and support are key pieces to sobriety. We believe long-term recovery is possible and that everyone is worth the opportunity to achieve it! Increased access to supportive living communities offers a long term solution to a chronic epidemic. Developing their own new structure and routine slowly in a supportive environment increases their chances of maintaining that healthy lifestyle for years to come.
