Martha's Hands Home Care

Martha's Hands Home Care Compassion & Excellence in Home Care Services! Families appreciate our quality care model & support services. CAREgivers love feeling supported & encouraged.

For 28 years, Martha's Hands Home Care Services has served St. Louis & St. Charles Counties! Our mission, “We serve with our hands and love with our hearts and seek the face of our Creator in those we serve,” inspires everything we do. We became the caring company we are today because of the compassionate spirit of our Founder, Eileen McCaffrey Hedrick, RN, BSHA. Her family foundations, especially her son David, and her appreciation for her Sisters of Mercy Nursing education and success in other business ventures created the cornerstone of our success. Eileen grew up in a family that lived a life of service. She was surrounded by her loving parents, priests, nuns, social workers, teachers, service men, doctors, nurses, and professionals in science. Eileen enjoyed volunteering in her school, community, and church. Inspired by her family’s commitment to service, Eileen enrolled and received her nursing training by the Sisters of Mercy at St. Johns/Mercy Hospital. The Sisters of Mercy provided excellent foundations in nursing training while stressing the holistic approach of compassionate nursing care of healthy body, mind, and spirit. John David was the original inspiration behind our compassionate spirit and service at Martha’s Hands. He taught us how to use our hands and hearts to be with someone who is sick and unable to take care of themselves. John David’s life and death taught us this spirit of caring which we have made our mission. “The Martha’s Hands Way”TM based on the Mother Teresa quote, “We serve with our hands, love with our hearts, and seek the face of our creator in those we serve." With encouragement from family and friends, Eileen’s mission became the foundation for her new home caring company, Martha’s Hands. Eileen focused on finding committed caregivers and sharing with them the lessons of the Sisters of Mercy so they would provide that compassion and excellence in home care. Her husband, John Hedrick, had built his own success in business; owning and running his own automation & control engineering company. Her daughter, Denise Hedrick Huber, brought her expertise in communication/marketing and personal/relationship development. With their help and the support of other family members, Martha’s Hands was launched in 1997. As Martha’s Hands continues to grow, Eileen has brought on other talented individuals to help with her mission. Her daughter, Nicole Hedrick Seavey, joined the leadership team in finance and technology. Her other daughter, Helene Hedrick, provides Art Services to our clients. Others have joined the mission, yet Eileen treats all of her team members as family. We are especially grateful to those who have entrusted their loved ones to our care. In 2020, Martha’s Hands reached a significant milestone by providing their 5,000,000th hour of service. While Martha’s Hands continues to grow and expand, we will never lose focus of our foundations. The Martha’s Hands Team is determined to provide excellent and compassionate care inspired by our mission….

“We serve with our Hands, Love with our Hearts, and Seek the Face of our Creator in those We Serve.” – Mother Teresa

Happy New Year!

A Message from our Nurse Founder, Eileen McCaffrey Hedrick, and her husband/partner, John Hedrick:

As I look back at 2025 and ahead to 2026, I am reminded to strengthen our foundational values on which we developed Martha's Hands in 1997 as a Care Ministry based on "Loving God and Seeking God's Face in those We Serve". Psalm 124.

All values I was taught at St John's Mercy Hospital and the Sisters of Mercy. This has been our Motto since the beginning.

We, at Martha's Hands, are so grateful to all our special CAREgivers who have stepped forward in providing Compassionate Love and Excellent Care for our Sick and our Seniors. They are the Angels & Heroes of our days!

We wait in Hope that Promises will be fulfilled in our Emmanuel, our King of Love and Glory.
Let the Lord Enter, He is the King of Glory. Psalm 24

Wishing You and Your Families Special Graces & Love during these holy days of Faith and a Blessed New Year!

Connecting Through Creativity!

Lead, Lift, and Leave a Legacy gathered amazing women together to share and grow together through creative connections. Our Co-Founder, Denise Hedrick Huber, participated in a workshop with Wildflowers LLC and their owner, Sara Ward, and her team - allowing for creativity, reflections, and appreciation for all that we hold dear in life.

Big thank you to Rachel Rubin Wilkins - EMBA for our growing L3 community. "Community" is just a word without the people who breathe life into it. This community is making a difference in people's lives.

Celebrating our personal and professional successes, the LLL LeadHers workshop Thoughtful stories of gratitude bloomed everywhere as we created and crafted beautiful wreaths to take home and appreciate.

From fellowship, hands-on creative wreath making, and a farm-to-table lunch at Have A Cow Cattle Company, it was a morning of replenishment and joy.

Merry Christmas to this L3 Community: Natalie Marie Pinson, Allied ASID, Kristi Borglum, CFP®. Marianne Biangardi, MS, BFA, Jaime Nunnelee, Kathryn Wilkins, Hanah Wilkins, Lindsay Skredenske, Ali Carson, ACC, Peg Petralia D.O., CHIE, Tina Linnenbrink, Kate Manfull.

Healing Through Your Pain!

Rachel Ebeling, MBA, co-founder The Angel Band Project, delivered a powerful reflection on grief, trauma, healing, and resilience - and on the quiet strength people carry to move through pain.

We see these situations with many of our clients - looking for ways for them to heal through their trauma. We also look for ways to support our CAREgivers who also are going through their own, very human experiences.

It was another impactful day at the G.R.I.T. -GROWTH, RESILIENCE, INTENTION, TENACITY Community Lunch. Thank you to Jennifer Bardot MS, MA for bringing women together to learn more about how we can support each other in our community.

Jennifer also had the opportunity to recognize those featured in the St Louis Small Business Monthly, including our Co-Founder, Denise Hedrick Huber. What an amzing group of women - honored to be included with them.

Loved seeing other GRIT Leaders: Blerina Polovina, Megan Usovsky, BS, MS, Esq., Amy Rannebarger, MHRM, Marianne Biangardi, MS, BFA, Susan Duff, Joani Alsop, M.A., Jill Essner, MBA, Melissa Albers, Debbie Rohrich-Tyler, Brenda Smith, Amanda Schroeder, MBA, Kate Manfull, Christy Viviano, Jordan Bouchard, Nicole Vislay, Lindsay Skredenske, Arinola Solanke MBA and Diane Carson.

College Students Getting Health Care Experience!

When college students are wanting to start a career in health care, they want to learn and grow quickly. But without certifications or licenses, sometime it is difficult to get hands-on experience.

Their Answer: Martha's Hands!

We provide the opportunity to learn and grow in three unique ways:

First, they can shadow our Nurse Care Managers and learn about community nursing. Not only do they understand the nurses role but also how they partner with the client, family and other health care providers to ensure quality care.

Second, they can work as Caregivers. Since we do not have any certification or license requirements, we can put these college students right to work. Before they start, tyhey complete a four-hour Evalaution For Placement. During this EFP, we verify the types of care settigns and situations that would be appropriate. We then only place them in those assignments.

Third, they can complete our on-going training programs. We offer monthly skills training through our partnership with the Missouri Alliance for Care at Home along with seminars and traning opportunities through Washington University in St. Louis, Alzheimer's Association Greater Missouri Chapter, American Parkinson Disease Association Greater St. Louis Chapter, and other professional organizations.

The college students who have gone through our College Caregiver Experience have had great success gettign into their professional schools and landign their first health care jobs. Besides nursing, students have gone on to become Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Physician Assitants and Medical Doctors.

Meet Emma!

She is a college student looking to apply into nursing school next year. She recently applied. She came into our EFP and made a positive impact on our team. Her ambition secured her a Nurse Shadow expereince the next day and several shifts over the next week. We see a great future for Emma!

If you know a college student wanting to give themselves a leg up in their health care career, have them consider Martha's Hands.

Elliott Chubb
February 7, 1927 – December 8, 2025

Elliott Chubb passed away on Monday, December 8, at the age of 98 years in the peaceful surroundings of his home. Cherished spouse of Mary Bockskopf Chubb. Beloved father of Andrew Elliott, Christopher Robert, and Ailan Caroline. Dear Uncle of Walston Chubb, Jr. and Catherine Chubb Pick. Predeceased by parents, R. Walston Chubb and Irene Sylvester Chubb; stepmother Lee Langenohl Chubb; sister Louise and brother Walston Chubb, Sr. as well as former wife, Dell Roberts Chubb. Brother -in- law, cousin and friend.

Elliott attended Bristol Elementary in the Webster School District prior to attending John Burroughs School. The day after graduating from JBS (class of ’44) he entered the US Navy. Upon the end of the war, he attended Harvard University (BS ’50) earning a degree in Sociology. He then attended Washington University in St. Louis (BS ’54, SI ’55) earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. Elliott was employed for 30 years at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing, retiring in 1990. Elliott was a life long resident of St. Louis with the exception of 5 years when he worked for Hazeltine on Long Island, NY. It was there that his three children were born.

Elliott was a direct descendant of the Mayflower on his mother’s side. He greatly respected his grandfather, Percival Chubb, who was the Emeritus Leader of the Ethical Society of St. Louis during Elliott ‘s youth and young adulthood.

During his 98 years Elliott enjoyed the friendship of the many people he met, from his fourth grade lifetime friend the late Bob Sanford to frat brothers in Sigma Phi Epsilon (Official), members of the Ethical Society of St. Louis chorus, the Sandwich Club, the ROMEOS, the Three Creek Bassets, the SAJE Senior Ministry crowd, and the McDonnell Douglas/Boeing Retirees Club. Opera Theater of St. Louis was a special love of his.

For years Elliott was blessed with the kind and expert care of Dr. Benjamin Voss and Dr. Stuart Higano. Most recently the BJC Health Hospice Team and the caregivers of Martha’s Hands provided the same kind and expert assistance for which the family is grateful. Having a great respect for science, Elliott donated his body to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Rest In Peace

True Christmas Spirit!

Bev is an Angel. She spreads love and kindness wherever she goes. Not only is she an amazing CAREgiver, she goes way above and beyond for all those blessed to be in her life.

Outside of all the other things she has goign on in her life, she has taken the time each other to hand-make Christmas Gifts for our Office CARE Team. Tweny-three individually made Christmas. They are very special treats for us.

Here is the unique poem she wrote about this labor of love:

A Special Thank You

The fall before Christmas,
I awoke with a start.
23 gifts to make,
so I needed to start.

I gathered my supplies,
fabric, needle and thread.
I hadn't a clue,
or a thought in my head.

I cut and I folded,
and removed every tag.
I stood back and realized,
I had created a bag.

I quickly went to work,
with a vision in mind.
Each would be special,
one of a kind.

So out came the jewelry,
the glitter, the glue.
Each made with love,
and a special Thank You!

Well Bev, thank you!

Thank you for reminding us all about the Christmas Spirit and of God's great kindness shared through our words and actions every day.

Christmas Floral Deliveries!

Every year during Advent, we take time to say an extra thank you to our clients. Our special way is with poinsettias! It is a passion of our Founder, Eileen Hedrick.

These seasonal flowers brighten up the homes of our clients: whether in the homes they have lived in for years/decades or the retirement communities they now call home. Wherever they call home - we are there to bring them joy!

Poinsettias have special meaning. The shape of the poinsettia flower is thought to symbolize the Star of Bethlehem, with the red leaves of the poinsettia symbolizing the blood of Christ. They also evoke the feelings of good cheer and community spirit.

You might have sees our little elves delivering these poinsettias these past few weeks. Thanks to Wiethop Greenhouses for the beautiful flowers. Enjoy the symbols in your life that bring good cheer!
