Our thoughts and prayers are with the St. Charles County Ambulance District and the family of Sarah McCarthy. She was a dedicated public servant, a wonderful mother, and a loving wife. This is a truly sad and tragic loss.

The City of St. Louis Department of Human Services has activated its Code Blue protocols from 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, through 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1.

The Street Department has also activated its snow plan protocol to pretreat the City’s streets on Friday morning.

Freezing temperatures are expected to hit St. Louis tonight with wind chill below 25°F through the next several days, and snow is expected Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

About 150 emergency shelter beds, in addition to 400 year-round shelter beds, will be available from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. through Nov. 29. Walk-up shelter is available at the following locations:

- Peter & Paul Jugan Shelter (single men, women, and family rooms)
3225 N. Florissant Ave.
- Biddle Housing Opportunities Center (single men only)
1212 N. 13th St.
- Additional locations by appointment only, coordinated through the United Way 211 Helpline by calling 211 or a coordinator at a rally point.

Individuals can walk up to these facilities until 9 p.m., or can call 211. Emergency shelters and warming centers will not be activated during the daytime, as temperatures are expected to rise above Code Blue levels. The City will release any changes to locations for Friday, Nov. 29, through Monday, Dec. 1.

Rally points have been established for transportation to the shelters at the following locations between 5 and 7 p.m.:

- Urban League Women's Business Center
4401 Natural Bridge Ave.
- Centenary United Methodist Church
1610 Olive St. (use the Pine Street entrance).
- Carondelet Park Pavilion #1
Off Loughborough Drive.

Individuals and families are encouraged, but not required, to bring the following items to a shelter:

- Changes of clothes
- Pillow and bedding, if desired
- Toiletries
- Essential medication
- Comfort items for yourself and your children

The City of St. Louis has partnered with the St. Louis City Continuum of Care, the United Way of Greater St. Louis, Peter & Paul Community Services, Biddle Housing Opportunities Center, Gateway 180, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, and Centenary United Methodist Church to make these shelters and related services available.

The City of St. Louis and its partners are closely monitoring the weather conditions and will continue to provide updates on emergency shelter and efforts to keep streets passable, as needed.
