PSA: Pedestrian Safety in the Central West End

Pedestrian activity is high throughout the Central West End, and safety requires constant awareness from everyone on the street!

Pedestrians should always use marked crosswalks and obey walk signals. Never assume a driver sees you. Make eye contact before crossing whenever possible.

Even when you have the right of way, stay alert and watch for turning or distracted vehicles.

Drivers are reminded to slow down, yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, and remain especially cautious at intersections and during low-light hours.

If you observe dangerous driving or traffic concerns, report them to the Citizens’ Service Bureau. Call 911 in an emergency.

Staying alert saves lives.

PSA: Shorter Days, Extra Caution Needed

As we move into the season of short daylight hours, it gets dark earlier in the evening, often during peak commute and activity times. Reduced visibility can increase safety risks for pedestrians, drivers, and residents.

Please take a few extra precautions:
- Stay aware of your surroundings when walking, especially after dusk
- Use well-lit routes and avoid distractions like phones or headphones
- Lock vehicles and remove valuables before nightfall
- Report suspicious activity to the non-emergency line or 911 if urgent

A little added awareness goes a long way in keeping the Central West End safe.

Staying Safe This Halloween in the Central West End!

Halloween celebrations are some of the busiest and most celebrated nights in the Central West End, drawing large crowds for neighborhood parties, costume contests, and family-friendly festivities. With so much activity expected, the NSI encourages everyone to stay alert and take simple precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable evening.

If you’re attending events or walking through the neighborhood, stick to well-lit areas, use crosswalks, and stay aware of your surroundings. Drivers should slow down and use extra caution, as pedestrian traffic will be heavy throughout the evening. Businesses are advised to secure doors, check exterior lighting, and make sure security cameras are working properly before closing.

Whether you’re out celebrating or simply passing through, please keep safety in mind and report any suspicious behavior or disturbances to the NSI or the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Together, we can help keep Halloween in the Central West End safe, fun, and memorable for all.

The suspects were last seen traveling north on Euclid, then west on Enright at approximately 5:12 PM.

The NSI also conducted a Flock Search and tracked the vehicle near the intersection of Euclid and Washington around 5:10 PM. Footage of the incident is available at the NSI Office upon request.

Package Theft – Doris Lofts, 4100 Laclede Ave

The NSI was informed of an unlawful entry and theft at the Doris Loft condominiums located at 4100 Laclede.

Internal building cameras show a person, believed to be a woman, taking Amazon packages from inside the building and leaving.

NSI external video shows a small red 4-door vehicle with a sunroof—possibly bearing Missouri license plate “JG0 V6Y”—arriving at the front entrance. The suspect appeared to gain access by posing as an Amazon delivery driver, removed five packages from inside, and then fled east on Laclede toward Vandeventer.

Doris Lofts experienced a similar intrusion and theft on September 7, 2025.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the NSI.
