It was a cold night for a ride last night, but our hearts were warmed that so many came out to South Side Cyclery for the Holiday Lights Ride in support of IFM! Collections of canned goods and personal care items will continue through the holidays at their store. Thanks to the riders and to the Southside crew for choosing IFM this year and helping us raise funds for and spread the word about our mission!

We just toured Independence Center (what a neat place!) to see what they do firsthand and discuss how we can cross refer between their and IFM’s services. From job training to nutritional support to housing assistance to mental health services and medication support, Independence Center St. Louis is a haven for their clients. Lynelle, our Chief Clinical Officer, even found a holiday gift at their on site Clubhouse Shop! Our community is fortunate to have this great organization working to help those with mental illness build independence!

Parkway Central High School student, Sofia, was shadowing at our Hancock Place Clinic today with Kristi, the Clinic Manager, to learn more about what IFM does. She's taking an engineering course at her school through a program called Spark! offered in the district. She's interested in biomedical engineering as a possible career path so learning about primary care, the building block for all health care, is a great experience!
IFM's history is rooted in medical/health education as our Founder, Dr. David Campbell, has always been a champion for giving those in medical/health care training real world experiences, particularly those involving caring for underserved populations. Our clinics utilize volunteers, most of which are pursuing careers in the medical field, to help with scribing, patient coordination, and assisting with care under supervision. IFM not only cares for the medically underserved, but hopes to inspire future caregivers to consider a position where they can use their skills to help others.

It felt like the holidays were here early at IFM's administrative office when the Blueprints 4 Pangea student group at Washington University brought us a HUGE donation of 5,000 exam gloves and boxes and boxes of syringes, needles, and face masks today! Their group is ones of 12 chapters across the US whose mission is to reallocate unused medical supplies from areas of surplus to communities in need - reducing medical waste and diverting essential supplies to those who need them. We appreciate these dedicated students' efforts to help IFM strengthen the medically underserved communities right here in greater STL! Washington University in St. Louis

We've saved our largest collaborative partnership feature for our last feature this !
Our partnership with SSM Health / DePaul Hospital launched IFM into an entirely new initiative in 2023: a free-standing, community based health clinic open to all in need of affordable, accessible primary health care services, and designed to be our patients' ongoing medical home. This clinic, named the Community Connections Health Clinic, was the first to offer our community health worker (CHW) program that helps patients with their social determinant of health needs including an onsite food and personal care needs pantry and referrals to other agencies to help with housing, utilities, basic needs support, and more! The Clinic, located in a building on the campus of Missouri Baptist Children's Home, is open 5-days a week and staffed with IFM nurse practitioners, physicians, and CHWs to meet the needs of the medically underserved in the area. SSM Health DePaul provided a grant to IFM to offer community based care, at this site, for the un and under insured and low income residents in the Bridgeton/North County area. In addition to primary care, The Connections Clinic also offers behavioral health care and women's health services. Since opening, the clinic has served close to 2,000 patients, including a large population of Spanish-speaking individuals who are able to communicate effectively with and have built trust with our bi-lingual CHWs. We are so appreciative of SSM's support of our Connections Clinic and of MBCH for donating the use of the "Coleman House" building on their campus for our use. Our Clinic is a shining example of organizations with similar missions, working together, to strengthen our community. Please help us continue our work into the new year with a donation here:

Our Clinic at Harris-Stowe State University, staffed by IFM Nurse Practitioner Teresa DuMaine (second from left), is our only University-based clinic and focuses solely on serving their students (mostly ages 18-21) by providing wellness exams, sick visits, and offering occasional vaccine events as well (pictured here). We are proud of our 10-year partnership with Harris-Stowe State University, an historically black university serving around 1,500 students each year from St. Louis and beyond.
