When families come to see us for hospice and end of life care, we usually get to hear some of the pet's life story - it is a beautiful part of the work we do 💙🐾💜 We always love when we hear of pets being adopted as adults, and especially as seniors! So many people look past the elder pets - the ones that are often already trained, who've passed up the crazy puppy stage, and who just want a friend to love and spoil them! 💜 November is recognized as National Senior Pet Month and/or National Adopt a Senior Pet Month. So this month is a dedicated time to raise awareness about the benefits of adopting older animals from shelters and rescue organizations. Here in St Louis, we have some wonderful groups that focus on the senior pets! And we have some other lovely groups that may not focus on seniors, but they don't forget about them, either! We'll tag a few....and if you know of others, please feel free to share in the comments! 💙

Telehealth services can be helpful during a pet's end-of-life journey. If you've received a terminal diagnosis for your beloved cat, you may wonder what to expect in the coming days. If your sweet dog is slowing down, and doesn't seem to be enjoying life, you may wonder how to know that its time for a gentle euthanasia visit.

While teleadvice visits do not allow a veterinarian to prescribe medications, they can still be very helpful for making a plan, and knowing how to best help your cherished companion. We can:

-cover your pet's relevant history

-go over what typically happens during your pets disease progression

-review what to expect and how to know when it might be time for euthanasia

-discuss environmental changes that can be helpful for disease management, and increase quality of life

-if applicable, recommend returning to your regular vet for additional testing / therapies
