We are relentlessly committed to providing early intervention services for children and families. We are Caring for Children and Families. Mind. Body. Soul.

We serve the young child impacted by abuse, neglect, and mental or behavioral health needs through a suite of programs all designed to offer and facilitate early intervention. We offer mental health treatment to children during their formative years, coupled with treatment and support services for the entire client family.

We’re grateful to recognize Colleen Abendroth, MSW, LCSW, RPT-S™, CAdPT-A, a Psychotherapist at Keystone Mental Health Services, for the expertise and compassion she brings to children and families every day.

In addition to being a Registered Play Therapist–Supervisor, Colleen is an Advanced Certified Adlerian Play Therapist (CAdPT-A) — the only clinician in the state of Missouri to hold this advanced certification.

Through developmentally appropriate, evidence-based play therapy and a deeply family-centered approach, Colleen creates a safe, supportive space where children can express themselves, build skills, and grow. 💙 At Our Little Haven, we believe family connections matter more than ever.

Through Diligent Ongoing Relative Search (DORS), our Community Family Services team works to identify and engage relatives who can offer connection, support, or even permanency for children in foster care. This work is ongoing, intentional, and deeply relationship-focused.

One of the tools we use is a genogram – a visual map of a child’s family system that helps us see relationships, history, and potential supports across generations.

Together, DORS and genograms help ensure no connection is overlooked and every child has the chance to maintain meaningful family ties whenever possible. This is how we help build stability, belonging, and brighter futures for children and families. 💫

The Cookie Jar Story

Our Little Haven is complicated - the kids and families are overwhelmed, the system is "broke" and often there is no place to get help. OLH invites the community to help through early intervention which is in itself is complicated. So, to help explain the beauty of Our Little Haven here is a simple story. We believe when we’re born, God gives us a Cookie Jar and with each positive experience - each hug, each high-five, each success – we get a cookie in our Cookie Jar. At about ten years old (the ending of our formative years) our Cookie Jar gets sealed up and what we have in our Jar is what nurtures us for the rest of our lives. Now, most of our Cookie Jars are pretty full. The Haven Kids, well, their Jars are empty and it’s our honor to fill them. That’s what the community does – helping to fill Cookie Jars.
