Suicide is a national health problem that takes an enormous toll on family, friends, co-workers, and the entire community. AFSP provides opportunities for survivors of suicide loss to get involved through a wide variety of educational, outreach, and awareness efforts. AFSP’s growing network of more than 50 local chapters nationwide join together those who have lost someone to suicide, individuals with mental disorders and their families, mental health professionals, community and business leaders, and others interested in preventing suicide. Our chapter volunteers deliver innovative prevention programs to schools and businesses, reach out to survivors of suicide loss, organize fundraising events, and act as a go-to resource for their entire community. They are at the forefront of increasing the public’s awareness of suicide as a public health issue that is preventable. Please join us today to help build a world without suicide.

The construction industry faces one of the highest su***de rates of any profession. Long hours, physical strain, job insecurity, and stigma around mental health all contribute to this crisis.

It is estimated that 12 construction workers across the U.S. die by su***de daily. Compared to the general population, male construction workers have a three times higher rate of su***de, while female construction workers have four times higher rate (than women in other industries). Although su***de impacts the construction industry at a high rate, it is important to know that there is always hope and su***de can be prevented.

The American Foundation for Su***de Prevention Missouri Chapter’s Construction Hike for Hope is a powerful opportunity for the construction community to work toward a future where su***de is no longer a leading cause of death in the construction industry.

Yesterday was an incredible day in Jefferson City at our Missouri State Capitol for our annual Advocacy Action Day! Our advocates shared their stories, shared pictures of their loved ones, brought awareness to 988 bills, co-response bills and su***de prevention education for educators bills. It’s always a heavy day but they gave it their all and were a voice themselves, those struggling and those no longer with us.

Thank you to all the legislators and staff who took time out of their very busy day to meet with us and listen to us!

A HUGE shoutout and thank you to our incredible advocates! We can’t do the work we do with YOU! You are special, you matter and you are so worthy! Thank you for all you do!!

If in crisis please call, text or chat 988 24/7 365 You matter!

In Jefferson City today our advocates were advocating for permanent, sustainable 988 funding, Behavioral Health Co-Response Teams & Training and School Personnel Training with their legislators. Thank you to all those that showed up and used their voices to further this vital work.

Construction workers build our roads, bridges, and communities. It’s time we help build hope within the workforce.

According to CDC data, the construction and extraction industries have the highest rate of su***de among occupational groups in the U.S. That’s why AFSP Missouri Chapter’s Construction Hike for Hope is dedicated to improving mental health in the construction industry through education, prevention, and empowering mental health champions on every job site.

Join us for a meaningful day outdoors as we honor those affected, raise awareness, and walk together toward change.

Let’s build a culture where asking for help is strength.
