Not all high chairs are created equal! And I don’t mean that in a “you’re doing it wrong” kind of way. I mean it in a “little bodies deserve thoughtful support” kind of way 🤍

The way a child sits during meals impacts more than just posture. It influences stability, coordination, endurance, and even confidence with self-feeding. When feet are supported and their trunk feels secure, their energy can go toward learning… not just staying upright and fighting gravity.

Yes, kids will learn to eat regardless. But when we optimize their setup, we make it easier on their bodies which will enhance so many other aspects of their lives! As both a pediatric physical therapist and a mom, that’s something I care about deeply ✨

If you’re high chair shopping, look at foot support, adjustability, and how your child’s body is positioned, not just aesthetics or that it’s what “everyone else uses” so it must be good.

Small environmental shifts can make a big difference over time 🤍

Your child walking on their toes (no matter how high up) is not always a concern but it does get hairy when they start to do it half the time or more, when having a hard time going 💩 (helps them hold the 💩 in), having a hard time keeping up with friends because they trip a lot, or start complaining of leg/foot pain.

EXPERT TIP: watch if your child puts their heel down first when stepping/walking. If their toes or the front of their foot touches first, that’s considered a degree of toe walking 😮

If you notice it, DO NOT PANIC! Take note of when they do and how often. Wanting help but nervous for a hand full of reasons? That’s ok! Just know that we are here to help you through it ♥️

Not all crawling looks the same and that’s okay! 💛Sometimes babies prefer one pattern over another, like keeping the same leg up or out to the side. Often, this is just their body finding the easiest way to move but where we start to become concerned as movement experts and physical therapists who care deeply about your child is when the pattern persists and limits their ability to strengthen skills to help set them up for success!

Watching how your baby moves can give you helpful clues about what’s easy or tricky for them. If hands-and-knees crawling seems difficult or doesn’t show up yet, gentle support and guidance can make a big difference.

Every little movement helps build strength, coordination, and confidence, one small step at a time ✨

I want to know, what the funnest way that your little one currently or did crawl?!

Interoceptive skills are a huge part to successful potty training! 🚽🎉 AKA the body’s ability to accurately detect and respond to signals from within the body. The constant “I didn’t know” after they have an accident likely isn’t behavior, it’s their way of telling you their interoceptive skills aren’t fully built!

✨Try out these easy ways to help build those skills during play ✨

Pediatric physical therapy can be a blessing and a curse at the same time 😉 so many times parents come in for therapy to help their child move better, safer, more confidently but then realize that it comes with more work (happily) like having to do more child proofing, more chasing, more tiny panic attacks when you see them trying out a new skill or activity across the room on their own 😅

Here’s just a few of my favorite quotes from parents in the past few weeks that prove that taking the leap to start physical therapy with your child is absolutely worth it ♥️

😃 “My child is just so much happier now, able to move around in so many different ways. Even crawling away from me when they were mad”

🚽 “We no longer have hours of being upset and running back and forth to the toilet after getting home each night” “We can go out in public without worrying about if they will get upset or worsen their constipation”

🧘“They were able to blow out their birthday candles on their own!”

✨“Everyone just kept telling us to not worry, that they will figure it out on their own. We are so glad that we didn’t listen” ✨

We get that it can feel scary and overwhelming to think about adding one more thing to your plate but we help walk you through every bit of it at a pace that is best for you and your family. You’ll be supported in so many ways through it all ♥️ Please reach out for a quick, pressure free chat if you’re considering help for your child. We are here for you!
